It is nothing to do with “control freak” and everything to do with the fact that a non-medically trained person has no idea how to diagnose an illness, no resources to conduct the appropriate lab tests, and no knowledge of how to decide which would be the correct course of action once the condition is diagnosed. Furthermore, taking a drug that is not medically necessary can cause serious health problems. You can’t just put a drug out on the shelf for people to buy OTC when it takes a medical exam and testing to know whether and how much to take.
