Ocasio-Cartez’s Chief of Staff Has Sick Crush on Hitler Toady and Nazi Collaborator

People are often judged according to those with whom they associate, and in the case of AOC’s Chief of Staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, the congresswoman-elect may well find herself destined for trouble.

Ask yourself a question: If President Donald Trump hired a person who openly shows support for a Nazi collaborator, how long would that staff member last? And perhaps more importantly, how tarnished would the president’s brand be?…

…Saikat Chakrabarti is a highly motivated, smart guy. A Harvard grad, he founded a web tools company, Mockingbird. He is a founder of Justice Democrats, the PAC set up with The Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur, was instrumental in getting AOC elected, and is presently going through congressional training to learn how to become an effective chief of staff for the Dems’ golden girl.

Based on a recent clothing choice, Chakrabarti might justifiably be considered a Nazi sympathizer. But really? Well, yes. In his latest love-fest video for AOC, Chakrabarti is sporting a tee-shirt that features a portrait of Subhas Chandra Bose. Not familiar with this former Indian head of state? Here a few facts:

Bose was an ally of Adolf Hitler and met with him personally in 1942. Bose founded the Free India Legion (FIL) made up of troops captured by Nazi Field Marshal Rommel’s Afrika Korps.

The FIL swore an oath to Hitler and was under SS command. Bose teamed up with the Japanese in 1943. Bose was an admirer of the USSR and sought to implement its authoritarian practices in India. You get the picture.

If anyone in any Republican congresscriter's office staff had anything remotely complimentary to Nazis(the real ones) in general and Hitler specifically, the networks would gop ballistic. But bwecause it's a brown one with an unpronounceable name, it' gets a pass.

Two years ago, after working for the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, Saikat Chakrabarti co-founded an organization called Brand New Congress with a lofty goal: Launch hundreds of progressive candidates into congressional races.

Hundreds didn’t exactly pan out. But one major star emerged from that process: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who shocked the political world this summer with a primary upset over rising party leader Joe Crowley.

I discovered this guy recently while doing some random reading. He was an uncompromising Indian nationalist who saw British involvement in WW2 as something he could exploit for his cause. His collaboration with Nazi Germany (and Imperial Japan) went beyond mere convenience and he did embrace fascist ideas. He formed the Indian National Army, which fought alongside the Japanese. He liked Soviet communism too, but thought that for India, a fusion of fascist and communist ideas would be best. He died in 1945 a Japanese military plane that crashed on Formosa. His ashes rest in a Buddhist temple in Tokyo. Interestingly, he is held in high regard in India, where an airport is named for him, and he had his image on stamps as recently as 2018, as well as in Japan. Back in 2007, on a visit to India, Japanese PM Abe said to Bose's family, "The Japanese are deeply moved by Bose's strong will to have led the Indian independence movement from British rule."

I wouldn't wear a shirt with his picture on it, but AOC's person is probably off the hook on this one. Most people have never heard of Bose, and he can just say Bose was a great leader for India's freedom. Awesome!

BTW, the Wikipedia article on this guy is very good. One of the reason I like reading history is finding out stuff like this that I never had a clue about. This guy has a very interesting story. I plan to read more.
