CA Survivors of Las Vegas Shooting to Receive Multi-Million Grant From DOJ

The Department of Justice's Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) Antiterrorism and Emergency Assistance Program (AEAP) awarded an $8.3 million grant to the California Victim Compensation Board (CalVCB) in order to support victims of the tragic Las Vegas shooting that took place in October 2017.

According to CalVCB...
• 65 percent of the 24,000 people at the Route 91 Harvest Festival were California residents.
• More than 600 Californians were injured in the attack.
• 35 of the 58 killed were from California.

“Thousands of California residents were present that day, and hundreds of them seriously wounded,” Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said . “Immediately after the shooting, we began working with officials from California and Nevada to meet the needs of victims, their families, first responders, and the community.”

To date, CalVCB has had 3,000 applications for assistance. The board has paid out over $4.5 million in benefits for mental health treatment, income loss, burial costs and other crime-related expenses. The federal grant will partially reimburse the state board for money already paid out in benefits. The remainder will be used for survivors' future needs.

“This tragic event affected so many people from both California and Nevada. From the beginning we’ve worked hand-in-hand with Nevada officials, and with our state, county and community partners to provide assistance to survivors,” CalVCB Executive Officer Julie Nauman said in a statement. “We encourage survivors and their family members who are struggling to recover to contact us.”

Last year, the DOJ awarded more than $16.7 million for Route 91 survivors.

Californians who believe they are eligible for assistance through CalVCB have until October 1, 2020 to apply for benefits.

Probably an entrapment operation gone wrong.

Yep...I had no idea this kind of thing is taking place and have never heard of the OVC or CalVCB, I suspect they haven’t been widely publicized.

Those are the hard, hard questions we need answered. The questions have answers but we are prevented from seeing them.

Incompetence is always a major factor in everything having to do with the government. But I know for sure they are also absolutely capable of deception for a cause. Ever heard the name Kurt Haskell? I had the opportunity to grill him over the coals personally. And he is straight up.

His little Filipino girlfriend slipped through the cracks and where is that security guard? A lot of thought and preparation went into that attack. Hard to believe one guy set that up and carried it out. I was working down the street during the North Hollywood shoot out and the gunfire that I heard there and what I heard on TV in Vegas sounded the same. They used 100 round drum magazine in North Hollywood. Bump stock ? Maybe. But there were a LOT of people shot.

I was friends with someone who was killed, non-CA resident.

We are definitely not getting the whole story. And these grants are an admission of knowledge and guilt.

He rode his bike home to get his camera when the first shots were fired, so he kinda missed most of it.

It is not that I don’t think they are evil enough to do something like this. I have no doubt they are a thoroughly depraved and devious bunch. I just don’t believe that they are competent enough to do something like this on purpose and keep it a secret. The Kurt Haskell reference illustrates my point.

The Kurt Haskell situation was a one in a million to be in the right place at the right time and he was very observant. I think it has happened quite a few times. I think the Christmas tree bomber was another one. I think almost all the mass shootings are others. I think you may not be giving them credit for being devious enough to try and pull these off. And they have...

I think you are giving the feds credit for a lot more proficiency than they have displayed at anything else in recent decades.

Everyone is looking for one answer, one guy or one group, to blame for this tragedy.

It is like an onion. Peel off one layer, there is another. Peel that, another one. The whole time you are peeling, the smell gets worse.

There were multiple ‘events’ going on that night.

President Trump was there. The Saudi Prince was there. The DHS was there. The FBI was there. They were conducting a terrorism exercise. There was an anarchist group of members from various ‘anti-white’ groups who wanted to use the cover from all the confusion generated by the aforementioned sentences to carry out the (in the words of the mystery woman who told the crowd before the shooting) “you’re all gonna die”. The alleged shooter owed the casino a ton of money. The alleged shooter had worked for CIA/FBI/LOCKHEED and the IRS. There were shootings at other casinos. There were two unidentified helos. And on, and on.

Anyway, it was something that the CIA/DHS/FBI lost control of, but not all of it was due to their lack of proficiency.

The cover up is mainly because the CIA/DHS/FBI don’t want the public to know that they got snookered, while they were trying to snooker us.

WTH?

I had people shooting at me, when I was in the service of my nation, not attending a concert... Where the heck is my grant?

I’d be happy with a couple hundred bucks, don’t need millions.

His girlfriend closed her social media account after the shooting but before his name was announced. If she din’ know nuttin’ why did she suspect it was him?

Weird article. How they emphasize "kalifornians." What if they'd been Tennesseeans? Kentuckians? Fly over countryans?

Weird article.

Why is the DOJ paying? Do they have some liability that I am unaware of? Why is taxpayer money going for this?

I would conclude that it is "hush money" to stop the families of the victims from continuing to press for more information about the incident.

It smelled at the time like a high-level Agency informant who turned on his handlers in a big way. Perhaps it was a sting operation that ran into something too nasty and fast to handle. Yes, I believe that the Government has "some liability" for this and is using payouts from DOJ as the instrument to quiet things down.
