Dont ever let anyone convince you that all Democrats are complete fiscal or economic ignoramuses. It may just seem that way listening to the new darling of the radical left, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
For sure, there appear to be some economic principles that just escape them, like the impact of Medicare-for-All, but at least some Democrats understand basic tax policy and the effects of taxation. At least some understand that if you want more of something, tax it less, and if you want less, tax it more.
Take, for example, Connecticut Democratic state Rep. Jillian Gilchrests new ammunition tax proposal. She wants to increase the state ammunition tax to 50 percent. Currently, ammo is taxed at the same rate as every other consumer good, and that just wont do.
Ive introduced HB 5700, a 50% tax increase on ammunition. It doesnt apply to military or law enforcement. Im hearing push back about the need to protect one's home but how much ammunition does someone really need to do that? #gunsense #enough pic.twitter.com/NZjkWBrpjC

Jillian understands full well that a huge tax increase on ammunition will cause people to buy less, which to the anti-gun left is a win for safety.
But is it a win for safety?
Everyone knows that the only way to get good at doing anything is to practice. Repetition is the key. Whether its giving a speech, hitting a golf ball or shooting a gun, one can never achieve and maintain proficiency without constant practice.

Nothing like driving up the market on reloading supplies. Id be willing to that there will be a large increase in the number of gun shows or even ammunition resellers along the borders of neighboring states.
The tax would likely impact recreational shooting significantly. But remember, its not about public safety but is all about punishing nonconformist thought. Democrats despise people who think they have constitutionally protected rights, other than abortion. (Which isnt really in the constitution.)
Reloading is a productive and rewarding hobby. Learn it.
What about the desperate impact of this tax on poor people.
But not without risk. A bunch of novices trying to learn reloading from other novices might not be the best situation.

Sorry, that should be disparate impact not desperate impact.
This tax increase would greatly impact the shotgun sports of trap, skeet, sporting clays and five stand. We that enjoy it shoot many many hundreds of shells doing or practicing these events. I reload but the tax will no doubt extend to the supplies we use. Even now, powder and shot prices make reloading v. buying new shells a slim price advantage.
You can bet the shot and wad and powder will be on the list for taxing.
Remember that D’anal Malloy said “so gun owners won’t fight government” in a post sandy hook appearance. It was before a debate. I’ll look for the video.
As a 31 year resident of CT, I’ll just get my ammo in PA and screw CT out of CT business and CT taxes collected. 2-dimensional thinkers actually believe CT residents will just pay up and not go out of state. Please tell me anyone that walks upright on 2 legs doesn’t realize this.
No lessons gleaned from that Philly soda tax fiasco.
