Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker said it was "deeply concerning" to him how CNN appeared to have advance knowledge of a raid on the home of political operative Roger Stone.
"It was deeply concerning to me as to how CNN found out about that, Whitaker stated during an oversight hearing to the House Judiciary Committee on Friday morning.
CNN said on Jan. 24 that it was in position to capture the dramatic raid by the FBI as a result of "good instincts, some key clues, more than a year of observing comings at the DC federal courthouse and the special counsel's office -- and a little luck on the timing."
Stone's possible indictment has been looming for months now, as Mueller has interviewed many of his associates and others connected to the longtime Trump confidante, whose political career dates back to President Richard Nixon, CNN added.
CNN's justice correspondent Evan Perez responded to Whitaker on "CNN Newsroom" on Friday morning, calling any allegation the network was tipped off by the FBI "frankly just false."
"He knows exactly whats happening here," Perez said. "Theres a bit of a conspiracy being hatched and Matt Whitaker knows the answer to this. He could simply pick up the phone and get an answer to this, but hes choosing to kinda play along with this conspiracy, which is frankly just false.
Whitaker did not share if the Justice Department has proof that CNN was told about the Stone raid in advance.
The court had a sealed indictment that, after Mr. Stones arrest, was unsealed. Consistent with all its prior indictments, the DOJs basic policy for transparency in criminal cases is that the indictment is posted on the DOJ website, probably after it is unsealed, and then media outlets were notified, said Whitaker.
I do not know of any other special counsels office notice or DOJ notice to media outlets regarding Mr. Stones indictment, or his arrest, he said.
President Trump and Stone, along with many in conservative media, have openly asked if CNN was tipped off about the raid.
Greatest Witch Hunt in the History of our Country! NO COLLUSION! Border Coyotes, Drug Dealers and Human Traffickers are treated better, Trump tweeted. Who alerted CNN to be there?
Whitaker is so concerned yet he remains hands off Mueller.
Thats an unbelievably dumb question. Someone who doesnt like Peesident Trump tipped them off. DUH!!!
Whitaker is toying with these buffoons. He knows and they know the investigations into Trump are all a farce!
Queer fish smells fishy. News at 11.

So what is he concerned about?
He's going to be Acting AG for only another week or so, until Barr is confirmed. What do you want him to do? Kill the Mueller probe altogether? Declassify the second Rosenstein Scope Memo? Open a probe into FISA court abuses by former FBI Director Comey?
Wait a sec, those don't sound too bad after all....
I can believe that the FBI did not tip off CNN. I think that CNN orchestrated the raid.
“He knows exactly whats happening here,” Perez said.
How about criminally prosecutable?!!!
Call CNN for the pre dawn raid on Mule Boy's home!
I am sick and damned tired of people being “deeply concerned” about things and doing jack about it!
The fact that is definitely possible is quite a statement of the mess we’re in!
“What do you want him to do? Kill the Mueller probe altogether? Declassify the second Rosenstein Scope Memo? Open a probe into FISA court abuses by former FBI Director Comey?”
Yes. What should’ve been done. You can tell that mueller and the corrupt DOJ have no fear of Barr, either. They know he’s coming in and they’re not mitigating their gestapo type tactics and leaks to the press. No fear at all.
Even more concerning is why they didn’t let Stone surrender voluntarily.
Well that’s a relief. He’s deeply concerned. Eric Holder opened up cavity search level investigations for less. This guy is just a short timer.
Deeply concerned....but will do nothing about it.
You need to put on your thinking cap.
“He could simply pick up the phone and get an answer to this...”
Yes, he could. He’s Mueller’s boss. If this really concerned him, he would have done something about getting to the bottom of it.
