I recently attended a speech contest involving high school students at the top in their respective schools. I realize it is normal for youngsters to be idyllic but the subject of these speeches dealt with subject matter which could have filled an HG Wells novel looking into a socialist future: diversity is a great thing; solar/renewable energy will save the world were two examples.

This mantra was espoused in every one of the presentations one of which was commentary on Trump's vision carefully crafted to appear not political. This is what is being pushed in schools, this is what is coming out. GIGO, garbage in is garbage out. Yes be very afraid. Talk to youngsters today. For example, note how food stamps for instance is now interwoven into the fabric of families.

When I was a kid, being "on relief" was an embarrassment, today it is looked at as a benefit. The government and the education apparatus are running most everyone's lives. One thing in common, they each cost more every year and accomplish less.

When I go outside my normal circle of friends and acquaintances - I tend to stick with folks that are reasonably intelligent - I am astounded at the ignorance out there.

There are millions of people out there that simply do not have the fundamental knowledge necessary to be a good citizen of a republic such as the United States. I've spoken to people that say things like "why doesn't the government just print more money and hand it out to the poor" as a solution to poverty. I mean, these people are totally serious when they say things like that.
