(ANSA)-Rome-February 7-France has recalled its ambassador to Rome, Christian Masset, for consultations. The French foreign ministry said the move was related to "groundless attacks by Italy without precedent since the end of the war" and "outrageous statements" by the Italian government. "Disagreeing is one thing, exploiting relations for electoral ends is another", the ministry noted.....

Ha! I used to wonder about this when I was a US troop under NATO and stationed in Europe and tensions between Greece and Turkey would flare up.
The only answer I could come up with then was, yes, fight both of them until they back down.
