How about the descendants of those slaves work and support themselves? Slavery ended 154 years ago.

Will the African-Americans also have to pay Reparations for the “Thousands of White European Slaves” taken by the African Barbary Pirates?

The Jesuits owned and operated thousands of acres of tobacco plantations in Maryland. They purchased and sold slaves, they enslaved the increase of their slaves who lived and worked on these plantations. When they sold their plantations, they sold their slaves, most of them to Catholic plantation owners in Louisiana and used the money to establish their Georgetown endowment.

They brag that their students come from 130 countries. So this will end up with African students paying “reparations” for what their university once did.

I better argument should be that students who came from socialist and communist countries be taxed to pay “reparations” to all the people harmed by socialism and communism.

Oh yes, and since it is Jesuit Catholic, all Jesuits must pay reparations for all those harmed by the Jesuit Order.

There were thousands of blacks who were slave owners.

There were certainly black slave owners, but they were rare and more so over the years as misogyny laws came into force that prohibited emancipation of any slave.

Stupid is as stupid does. If Georgetown U sold people, then let the administrators descendents, those who now serve as administrators, pay that tax. Not the students who had nothing to do with it.

I am totally in awe at the level of ignorance and stupidity displayed by supposedly educated people. Education can’t erase stupidity apparently.

At least the institution once produced James Ryder Randall, and I am pleasantly surprised to see that his Maryland, My Maryland remains the state song.

From Limbaugh today:

We have a couple of generations now who have been taught that this is what America really is, not the old storybook Founding Fathers, greatness, Abe Lincoln, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson. They’re just a bunch of racist, slave-owning bigots who have been romanticized way beyond reality. It’s really a perverted way to look at things.

And, by the way, this view encompasses every minority. Every minority is welcomed into this view that when this nation was founded, they were considered second class. “Really? Well, I’ll show them something.” So all these minorities unify around the central premise that America, unjust and immoral from the beginning and therefore America cannot be reformed under its current founding structure. It’s why it has to go socialist or communist. That’s the only real redress, the only real remedy is wiping out every vestige of America, from capitalist economics to the legal system.

And they’re on the way, they’ve got a two-tier justice system when they’re in charge of it. It’s not just we have differing ideologies and these people can be persuaded. And it’s not that they can be accommodated and various demands of theirs be met. If we admit it, every demand they’ve made that’s been met makes them angrier, makes them more outraged, makes them more primed for a fight. It’s as though all the advances don’t matter because, in essence, they haven’t really happened because they still happened 200 years ago when this country was founded.

I would be willing to contend that the law enslaved the increase of the slaves. That said, I don’t know 19th century Maryland law, and am willing to be corrected.

If only they had been growing weed it would have been ok.

Somebody tell those cupcakes we've been paying reparations ever since that fat LBJ started throwing trillions of dollars into the ghetto for black whores to have illegitimate children, sans any presence of a father figure.

And, how's that working out for us? For them?

Forget it. It's a lost cause.

I gotta admit, it seems strange that Priests would own slaves. Can anyone explain that to me?

“Its driving normal people crazy because crazy people are taken seriously.”

Yes, agreed. And, let’s face it, on the scale of crazy this one is at the low end. I mean, at least there were actual slaves, they have actual descendants. That’s a lot more reality based that a lot of stuff we’re supposed to not only believe, but celebrate these days.
