Very cold and very hot temperatures are hard on all battery chemistries.

Traditional lead-acid starting batteries need higher voltages to charge when cold...and don’t ever try to charge a discharged, frozen battery...BANG

Thanks! But don’t you think that as he drove his automobile the huge battery would warm up a bit so that the driving range would be restored. Maybe those large batteries need a heating element that can be plugged in on v cold nights.
