People are in live [love] with their SUVs and Pick-up trucks.

I’ve noticed there are not that many sedans on the morning and evening commute just hordes of SUVS and PUs - both of which are expensive and burn a lot of gas compared to sedans.

Actually, most SUVs/Crossovers, are the size of sedans, and produce approximately the same MPGs as their counterpart sedans. IOW, SUVs are mostly the sedans of old with higher roofs. The SUV I drive gives me approximately 23.5 MPGs with city and highway driving combined. Recently, on a trip from Tampa to Orlando and back, I got 29 MPGs.

Also, with fuel prices having come down recently to levels that are very affordable, people are not caring about 'expensive' fuels, since, they're not around anymore. In fact, after cost-of-living adjustment, prices of fuels are more affordable than they were some 10-15 years ago.

PUs are a waste of time and money for most people, true, but remember FReepers are older, more rural, and more self-reliant than average.

The best-selling SUVs are the length of compact cars and give up only a couple mpgs to sedans. Worsening roads and fatter and older people make them good choices - easier to get in and out and more ground clearance.
