This is a very interesting article over at Gateway Pundit.
It sure looks like Northam is not in the blackface-KKK photo... blackface appears to be a friend of his, Keith Matthews... and Northam is too tall to be the dude in the Klan outfit.
Take a look. This looks pretty convincing.

I’m betting the guy in the hood is a black guy. And that the white guy in blackface in the plaid pants and the black guy in the white hood were friends who were goofing on people.

I”d say the man is innocent. If it wasn’t him, then he should stand up to these basta*ds and not step down.
To: Pelham
One day he talks about killing new born babies and everybody yawns, the next day a 30 year old picture of him being a racist jackass emerges and the world loses their minds.
Seems the nation's priorities are askew.

Northam aka “coonman” is under the hood just like Robert Byrd Northam family has history of slave ownership.

Could this be the guy in the plaid pants?

My take on this is that Northam apparently belonged to some sort of interracial club, as evidenced by the two black men in the photo, which undermines the claim that he's some sort of racist. Hence, the alleged "racist" blackface photo probably has some benign interpretation, i.e., it was some sort of ill-advised spoof, not an attempt to mock black people.
Having said that, Northam's racist smear ads against Gillespie were some of the most repugnant political ads I've ever seen, his views on abortion are barbaric, and Northam fully deserves the mess he's gotten into.

So there’s only ONE pair of plaid pants in the entire world? They must be quite valuable!

Northam is a Billionaire-chosen Democrat. Therefore, any criticism of him is OBVIOUSLY based in racism.

What’s odd is NONE of the Sunday Morning Talk Shows mentioned Northam was called “coonman”. Chuck Todd AND Chris Wallace left that little tidbit off their shows.

Sometimes the writers at Gateway Pundit are sloppy. The photo of club members standing in front of a car appears to be from an earlier yearbook - like high-school or college - not medical school.
Of course the appearance of a similarly ugly pair of pants is interesting. It could mean Northam went out on Halloween with an old friend of his, and it is Northam in the KKK costume, or it could mean that Northam borrowed the pants from his friend for his costume.
To: Pelham
Seeing those pics, I tend to think Northam is either in the famous pic, but why did he say, at first, that he was in that picture? Maybe there were other times when they played KKK, but the pics, if any, didn't show up.

Doesn’t change the fact that Coonman said he did blackface for a michael jackson contest.
What matters, the photo or doing blackface?

This whole photo thing is to get his post-abortion statement blunder out of the headlines. Convenient how this blew up at this time when the yearbook photos have been out there for 30+ years.
To: Pelham
I don’t care if Northam is a Democrat or Republican. Everyone has done stupid things in their youth, well almost everyone. To hold something that happened over 30 years ago against you today is ludicrous in my book. We could easily weed out most members of congress if we found out some of the things they did in their teens and 20s. Northam should be held accountable for his view on abortion, the murder of children, not a blackface skit of long ago.
To: Pelham
I expect there were more than one pair of plaid pants on campus then. Why couldn’t Northam have had a similar pair?

The man in the KKK outfit has the point of his hood touching the ceiling.
If it is Northam that would explain why he appears shorter... he’s bending his knees to keep the point of the hood from bending.
