After first admitting and apologizing for appearing in a racist photo in his 1984 medical school yearbook, Gov. Ralph Northam has been calling Democratic leaders saying he isn't one of the two men in the image.
Virginia Sen. Louise Lucas who represents Portsmouth said Northam called her this morning and said he wouldn’t step down.
“I’m not going to resign because it’s not me in that photo,” Lucas said, recalling what he told her.

Northam’s comments about killing babies is much much worse than what he did in the photo. Yet here we are just talking about the photo.
Harry Byrd was a Governor of Virginia and ran the Dimocrat machine in Virginia for decades.
Perhaps if people figured out that many of those poor babies are black, that would make a difference.

Good point. Has kinda bothered me that this 1984 Halloween get up (I’m assuming) is getting more attention than infanticide. Byrd was actually in the Klan and Dems blew it off, why would they care now unless it was a republican? This very well could be a diversion from the topic of infanticide.
He might be wiser if he took the Fifth instead of drinking it.

The context is also important here. While some might be tempted to argue blackface wasn’t so taboo back in the early 1980s, this was an era in which Klan was still active and still violent near where Northam grew up in southern Virginia, as Jerald Lentini noted.
In 1979, Klansmen and members of the American Nazi Party killed five members of the Communist Workers Party in Greensboro, N.C. In 1980 in Chattanooga, Tenn., Klansmen wounded four black women with shotgun pellets and another with broken glass after shooting up a predominantly black neighborhood. The so-called “last lynching in America” was perpetrated by the Klan in 1981 in Mobile, Ala.

Too late. He already apologized. Even if you did nothing wrong and say you’re sorry they’re upset in order to mollify the angry mob, it becomes another point against you.
Lesson - never apologize to liberal bullies, it only makes things worse.
Given the severity of the charges, I can’t believe he apologized unless he actually did it - too damning to admit any association with it.

I’ve seen this mentioned .... if that “meme” takes off, ouch!! Evidently, he wouldn’t shake Bishop Jackson’s hand .... that’s being talked about as well ... indication that he’s been racist more currently, not just in the past as his yearbooks seem to indicate.
