Ghani is going to miss his cash flow from US.

The Chicoms are ready to step into the breach though. There is too much mineral wealth for them to ignore and we are too pure and stupid to just take it.

Yeh because as soon as we pull out the Taliban will take back over.

That's how I see it.

The Taliban will install Sharia ,and kill our useful Idiots who are Muslim heretics and Infidel collaborators. -Tom

I think a couple decades is enough time for these moozlum losers to figure out how to be civil there.

Afghanistan will descend into an abyss if we leave, but the whole scene there has the indicators of a useless occupation.

Which afghans, the ones getting paper bags full of US taspayer cash like former president karzai? If we stay another ten years what would change? We will have pissed away billions more in taxpayer money and some number of American boys dead. And any number over zero is too many.

“The difficulty for the Afghans is that in order to secure continued US aid, they had to fight the war the American way. The way to win the war quickly and cheaply was to fight the war the way it’s been fought successfully by every new Afghan dynasty (including the Taliban) since anyone started recording the country’s history - via targeted massacres of tribes and families related to the rebels (currently the Taliban), down to the last man, woman and child.”

Your posts are elegant. You make good points. I disagree that this tactic would win the war quickly and cheaply. The Afghan tribes have been fighting each other for centuries.

In other words:

The Opium Trade is booming thanks to the US Military, if they pull out now our Opium Trade will suffer greatly.

I didn’t say that. The Taliban played host to AQ. They slipped over the border into Pakistan early-on. Mostly we’ve been fighting the Taliban ever since.

I was in favor of the mission back then. We had no choice. But staying around to change the government has turned out to be a mission without end.

We have been fighting the taliban for 17 years and now we are negotiating with the taliban over the role they will play in the Afghan govt

I predict within a couple years the Afghan govt will be the taliban and we will be arming resistance warlord militias in the north

History may not repeat itself, but it will rhyme
Not one more American life is worth this mess

The struggle over the drug trade shifted when ISIS established itself in Afghanistan

IS now makes the taliban look like the better of bad choices

The US should never have sent troops to Afghanistan. Bomb those mountain hideouts flat, yes... troops, no. All for the neocon fantasy of turning that dump into a modern western-style democracy.

Pakistan is a pack of wolves which will tear Afghanistan apart once a vacuum is created.

Yes! But for terrorist Pakistan, we could leave Afghanistan to continue to be a decrepit, impoverished and backward country - IOW harmless.
