The recent killing of a couple in Houston, Texas, and the wounding of four police officers, has been claimed to be an ambush of police by drug dealers.
Later accounts by officers at the scene show that police broke into the house, and fired first, killing the couple's dog.
The husband then fired back, wounding the officer who killed their dog.
Officers then shot the unarmed 58-year-old wife. They claim she was attempting to get the shotgun from the wounded officer. From cnn.com:
When Monday afternoon's raid was over, two suspects were dead and five officers were injured, four of them suffering gunshot wounds. The first officer fired a shotgun blast, killing the dog. Suspect Dennis Tuttle, 59, initially retreated but returned with a .357 Magnum, shooting the officer in the shoulder, the chief said. The officer collapsed onto a couch in the living room.
As the other narcotics officers charged through the door which Acevedo described as a fatal funnel the second suspect, Rhogena Nicholas, 58, tried to wrestle the shotgun away from the officer on the couch. Police quickly shot her.
More gunfire was exchanged as the 54-year-old officer who breached the door the officer who knocks down the door goes in last charged into the fray, realizing his fellow officers were in trouble.
He immediately knew his partners were down and he made entry. When he made entry, he got shot, Acevedo said. You know your brother's down, your sister's down, you go in, and that's what they did.

NOT ONE PERSON on a drug SWAT team doing an entry on a place believed to have big-time drugs wore a body camera..?!?!?!
Well, that’s a flat-out lie:
1. Got the address wrong
2. Terrified residents thought they were victims of a home invasion by fake cops
3. Big gun fight, residents killed
4. Look around - NO drugs at all, maybe a bunch of Bibles
5. “Hmmm...this is weird..!”
6. Closer examination of paperwork — “Oh sh*t...!!!”
7. Start thinking of the $um of money that could be involved in a settlement
8. MASSIVE cover-up
what INCREDIBLY wreckless statements.
Wow, it’s like they WANT all the residents to hate ALL cops.
Just wow.
How do you know it was a pitbull?
The initial police reporting claimed it was a drug dealer ambush.
The latest information is the HPD will be investigating themselves in this incident.
The Texas Rangers should be the ones investigating.
A police agency should not investigate itself.
That tail looks dangerous...
Again, this is an opinion piece, not a news report. The author is a firearms instructor retired from the DOD or so he claims. He also claims credit for getting concealed carry on the books in his district. A lot of “self-accreditation” going on.
The ammoland article has links to news stories and police statements from Houston.
They look like sterotypical East Tennessee low level drug dealers to me. I can guess the sterotype is valid in Texas.
Capital punishment for invading murderers.
The problem with the mistaken address hypothesis is the two addresses are 20 mile apart, at opposite sides of Houston.
He thinks they got the wrong house, the one with all the surveillance was not hit.
Let the Texas Rangers investigate it.
Meanwhile the statement from the guy in the cop union... WOW. He might as well have said "We admit that we hate you and we're coming to get you."
"They could HAVE BEEN that"...
We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that weve set. Weve got to have a civilian national security force thats just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded. Barack Hussein Obama, 7/2/2008They dont call it a Civil Defense force, that would imply we need (or perhaps that we deserve) defense. The official name is National Civilian Community Corps.
I think of it as the NatCCC, or more simply, as the NatCs...
Enter my home in that manner and Ill kill everyone of them I can.
L
Well the point is they may have made a mistake.
7815 HARDY Street instead of 7815 HARDING Street
The average house with typical 60 year old couple car in the drive way was 7815 Harding street. The known drug house with security cameras, bars on windows was 7815 Hardy street.
Thats a theory.
Acevedo - He was the police chief in Austin TX a few years ago. Now Houston is stuck with him.
Are you still dealing drugs?
If the drug dealers can flush all their drugs down the toilet while the cops are knocking on the door, they weren't particularly big-time drug dealers to begin with.
There's two types of drug dealers; those who need forklifts and those who don't.
If the police hit the wrong house and killed the wrong people, Acevedo should be fired.
