I seen old cars rusts completely through in a few years outside... how will this fair over time?
Hopefully they’ll be painting it.

Communist tears are a proven anti-rust protector.
It’s called weathering steel or CorTen. Controlled surface rusting to create a protective tube coat. Used on bridges and marine environments. Really effective in arid climates.
Once a layer of rust forms on thick metal, depending on the alloy, it takes a long time for the rust to cause damage in most environments. Railroad tracks are an example.
It’s actually a technical finish for iron that blocks further oxidation by a layer of oxidations Built-in to the steel. It will out last all of us.
What you see on cars is surface rust and not really that bad like a car that has been driven on salt roads. My bet is the steel is 3/8s to half inch thick and will take a long, long time for any rust to have any effect.
It is very different with say frames that are perforated many times and will trap moisture and corrosive elements from the road and these thick steel 30’x4” beams that are able to dry ...BIG difference as far as rusting is concerned.
The cars you see rust through are what 0.1” thick/10 guage? Not enough thickness for initial rust to act as a preventive coating. Those vertical columns are several inches thick. It will be 100+ years for them to rust through.
