President Trump on Thursday condemned the reported attack on “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett, which is being investigated as a possible hate crime.
“That I can tell you is horrible. It doesn't get worse,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
Smollett has said two men approached him on Tuesday and hit him while yelling racist and homophobic slurs, then placed a rope around his neck. The incident has drawn national attention.
TMZ reported Tuesday that the two suspects referenced Trump’s 2016 “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) campaign slogan during the alleged ambush, yelling, “This is MAGA country.”
"We can not confirm what the offenders stated," a Chicago Police Department spokesman said when asked about any MAGA-related language in the incident.

12 detectives for ONE bogus story..imagine if they were this concerned over solving the COUNTLESS murders in Chicago that happen on a daily basis, nah can’t have that, instead they have 12 detectives on one bogus story that everyone and I mean EVERYONE knows is fake..he made it up to cover up how he was using a gay dating app to get laid..that is why he REFUSES to turn over his phone
The whole thing is such an obvious hoax yet it is getting maximum support even by the Right.
As facts come out the story will slowly die without any of the hoaxers having to admit it.

I agree. Trump is playing it very smart here. He overtly takes the “victim” at his word and expresses sympathy. Indeed, if the story were true, it’d be worthy of sympathy. When the hoax unravels, Trump has the moral high ground. He expressed sympathetic when he “thought” it to be true, but, it’s not, and how dare this guy fake a hate crime and blame MAGA supporters? For Trump, it’s win-win.

This is obviously a hoax, he should have just said that we should wait for actual facts to emerge.
It does smell, but it does little harm to condemn violence, especially violence done in the name of MAGA.
It it's proven to be a hoax, then Trump can condemn the hoax too.
If it's not proven a hoax, then an early condemnation of alleged violence is better than silence which could be construed as condonment.
A lot of people have probably already said this but here goes....FAKE! First, anyone who wears a MAGA hat most likely doesn’t watch empire and has no clue who this creep is. Second, Chicago is a MAGA hat zone????? Really???? Who knew. Third, if youre attacked at 2am in Chicago by two guys who absolutely hate you, you won’t walk away with a couple of scratches. And they won’t put a piece of string around your neck to symbolize anything. If they can get a string around your stupid neck they can get a rope and strangle your lyin ass to death. He might have a contract negotiation coming up and he needed a little publicity to up his price?

It really helps to observe something, especially on the internet, and take a pause to think,find more information and actually verify BS like this before reacting.
Nah - nothing wrong with calling it what it was, regardless of how/why it happened...it was lousy thing for anyone to do to anyone.
I think he commented on it because he knows it will end up being a hoax. He’s just playing the media, as usual.

Did Trump condemn the attack? Or the media hype over this alledged attack?
My guess is the latter. Unless Trump was ignorant of the facts.
It is a hoax. Story has changed many times,,wont turn over his phone to verify what he says was going on. Says hehas broken ribs but aint acting like a person with broken ribs.
Video of him after the attack in he hotel shows him acting normal.
Further we dont have any video released at all from any of the number of cameras scouring that area. Because there was no attack.
Yes. The folks on the left, as indicated in the comments at The Hill are still buying it -- hook, line and sinker. Trump knows, but can't just dismiss it this soon. I'll play out.
