President Trump on Thursday condemned the reported attack on “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett, which is being investigated as a possible hate crime.
“That I can tell you is horrible. It doesn't get worse,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
Smollett has said two men approached him on Tuesday and hit him while yelling racist and homophobic slurs, then placed a rope around his neck. The incident has drawn national attention.
TMZ reported Tuesday that the two suspects referenced Trump’s 2016 “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) campaign slogan during the alleged ambush, yelling, “This is MAGA country.”
"We can not confirm what the offenders stated," a Chicago Police Department spokesman said when asked about any MAGA-related language in the incident.

I think he made the statement for the purpose when it proves to be a falsehood he looks good for standing up for the guy at the time.
I suspect Trump smells a hoax and he cant lose with his statement, in fact he’s drawing more attention to the story......

Exactly. If President Trump said, "Sounds fake to me." that would then become the story.
On a related note, ABC is reporting that Chicago has 12 detectives working this case. Twelve detectives. In a city where 83% of homicides go unsolved.

I think Trump knows that and is making a big scene, so there is a big exposure of the BS.
I guess the teeny-boppers in the White House told him that he needed to get on top of this issue.

Trump isn’t stupid. There was NO winning him saying that he thinks it’s a hoax. Move on...and when/if it turns out to be a hoax it will speak for itself, then Trump can pummel the subject.
Most of these hoaxes are solved, because law enforcement doesn’t like to be fooled with and have their time wasted. I suspect that the “victim” will have a tear filled apology shortly....then will head for rehab...

Well, IF this attack did happen, it was horrible. It’s not as if there are suspects in custody, so no individuals are being smeared. Now...let the Chicago police come up with some actual suspects.
(It would have been a BIG mistake for Trump even to have implied he suspects this is a hoax. Let this play out naturally.)
