As a (former) pollster, I trust Scott Rasmussen’s results on this poll completely. This can be treated as fact. A sure thing. A 100% bet. I’m as confident that a Howard Schultz candidacy will hurt Donald Trump in 2020 as I was in the polling that showed President Hillary would win in 2016.

Trump has masterfully goaded Schultz. Said he does not have the courage to run. Either he runs or crawls back into his cup.

There’s no such thing as a centrist Democrat any more. Bernie Sanders is, no joke, the voice of moderation in that party.

Given a choice between Donald Trump, a centrist Democrat, and a third-party candidate, 39% would vote for the centrist Democrat, 32% for President Trump, and 29% for the third-party option. That's assuming Schultz as the 3rd party candidate, and a "centrist" running as a democrat. Pray tell.. what candidate within the democrat party would meet the definition of "centrist?"

Well, if history tells us anything, it’s that 3rd candidates ruin the race for the established parties. Whether it’s Perot, Nader, Bloomberg or Schulz, the point is they will siphon votes.
Someone will win the election with 40% of the vote or barely more and that could conceivably be anyone of the three.
If there were ever a time when this could be true, it’s in today’s climate. I suspect that’s why we’re hearing so much about these type of potential runs. Cuban will be next.

Polls two years before the election are worthless. And polls two days before the election apparently aren’t a whole lot better.

Heres Chris Christie, whos turned surprisingly hostile to the White House lately. Should we, er, make anything of the fact that he hasnt ruled out another presidential run next year?LOL! I actually know people in Chris Christie's family. He wouldn't win an election if only they voted.

Left-leaning Full-of-HotAir twisting themselves into a pretzel to try and explain how Trump could lose with a 3rd party candidate running.
But no Trump supporter would fall for Schultz who is not exactly, as he admits publicly, the smartest bulb in the box.
Schultz has stumbled badly in his executive decisions before he stepped down from Starbucks leadership and since in an interview where he basically said "America exists for [illegal] immigrants, not Americans". With that kind of negative position, I don't think he will go far in the race.

These polls need to be taken seriously. President Hillary Clinton herself said so just the other day!

the obvious problem for Rasmussen is that we are still two years away from the election...
