Terry Allen Miles, 45, faces federal charges after police say he took two girls, ages 7 and 14 at the time, to Colorado. Both girls were found unharmed and Miles was indicted on kidnapping charges by a federal grand jury in February 2018... Prosecutors argued that Miles was having regular sexual activity with the then 14-year-old girl. On Dec. 29, 2017, they told jurors in their opening statement that Miles and the girls' mother, Tonya Bates, got into an argument and Miles blugeoned Bates to death. In a panic, prosecutors say Miles hastily packed up, then fled Round Rock in the middle of the night with the girls in their mother's vehicle. The federal government argues the kidnapping came as a result of Miles killing the girls' mother. They said the older daughter knew her mother was dead, but that the younger girl did not. The defense argued it was Bates' "high-risk lifestyle" that exposed her and her daughters to serious danger. The defense alleges that Bates was selling her body -- putting out advertisements for sex -- and said she had "many, many sexual encounters with strangers."

FTA: “Miles faces between 20 years and life in prison if convicted, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.”
IMHO, he should be given a fair trial and if he is convicted by a jury of his peers, they should take him outside and shoot him like any other rabid animal.
So he killed their mother and kidnapped the girls, and took them away, and may have been having sex with the older girl at least “on occasion”.
And the defense says something about the girls’ mother had loose morals/
Shaking head here... I don’t see how that should help Miles to be acquitted. But I am not familiar with this case.
The defense is relying too much on the fact that the mother was a prostitute. Of course that's a dangerous profession, but murder of a prostitute is still rare. And Round Rock is not exactly a hotbed of random crime.
"If Terry was a threat, they had every opportunity to get out and run," said the defense, explaining the girls didn't express any fear of Miles, but that they expressed concern for his well-being." https://www.kvue.com/article/news/crime/opening-statements-made-in-trial-for-man-accused-of-kidnapping-round-rock-girls/269-9d29b09e-8b71-43b6-91d1-d59506c58d5d
Yuck. She's probably gonna be messed up the rest of her life.
