I’ve seen the wall from both sides now

BROWNSVILLE, Texas - If you want a short course in understanding why border relations between the U.S. and Mexico tend to be a bit shaky, I heartily recommend a visit to the place where the border wall begins.

That’s in this city at the eastern end of the Rio Grande near where it empties into the Gulf of Mexico.

To get to the wall, which was built during the Bush 43 administration, you drive to the campus of Texas Southmost College and then follow a dirt road as it runs along an eight-foot fence. The fence soon turns into a 12-foot wall covered with concertina wire.

When photographer Andre Malok and I did so on Saturday, we soon came upon a Border Patrol truck. The agent told us what every agent so far has told us about the area between the fence and the river: We can’t stop you from going there. But watch out for some dicey characters.

We had walked just a couple hundred feet when we came to a monument. It marked the site of what had been Fort Brown, which was constructed in 1846 during a tiff between the U.S. and Mexico over the border. The Mexicans said they owned up to the Nueces River, which is far to the north. But the U.S. said Texas reached all the way down to the Rio Grande.

When the Mexican army attacked the fort, its commander was killed by cannon fire. But the defense held. The fort and later the city were named after Jacob Brown.

Watch this and realize how much illegals take from us taxpayers. Illegals claim many children on their taxes. One claimed 20 kids and 4 families living in his trailer. Turned out he had a wife and one child. He got 30,000 in tax refund. How much do you get?

The comment section on this article is liberalism run amuck . Not many were pro Trump to say the least and this writer painted his little excursion over to the Mexican town as a sweet jaunt into a tourist haven with sweet trinkets for sale....My God as I age I come across more and more who are simply braindead and willing to have our republic over run with persons who will not take care of their own country for whatever reason . Absolutely sickening the disdain for our President who stays within existing laws and has to deal with globalists who will sell us out for their own gain and the republic be damned.

Here is a photo of the border fence in Brownsville. That is a county road that goes through the fence.

Link.

I have been down that road to a bird preserve on the Rio Grande. It is scary wandering in the woods along the river with expensive camera gear. I got out of there and haven't been back.

I did see a Border Patrol SUV on the levee that the fence is on parked about 50 yards from the road watching the road crossing.

EVERY federal tax refund going to an individual using a TIN (instead of an SSN) should, as a minimum, NOT be sent electronically but MAILED using paper check.

If the mailing address is a physical residence address that address and name should serve as an ICE lead as a minimum and mailing of the check should be held temporarily giving ICE an opportunity to investigate legal status first. If the mailing address is a PO Box than a notice should be mailed to the “taxpayer” telling him/her she could pick up the check at a certain address (I.e., the address of the local ICE office). Of course NO “taxpayer” found to be an illegal alien would be allowed “their” check but would instead be subjected to deportation proceedings.

The many BILLIONS OF DOLLARS saved could go to the construction of the 30-40 feet CONCRETE border wall.

. . . globalists who will sell us out for their own gain and the republic be damned.

To coin a term, globesters (pronounced with a long "o"); the kind of epinumerous scurrying chatterers, the shock-troops promoting alien invasion, that you have described.

the construction of the 30-40 feet CONCRETE border wall.

. . . ten of the 30 feet of it buried, and topped off with stainless steel razor wire to get the point across.

The Star Ledger of Newark(at one time known as The Newark Star Ledger)is one of New Jersey’s premier liberal rags. Mulshine is it’s resident(token) ‘’conservative’’.

Here is an interactive map of walls and fences all along our Mexico border. If you look at the area along the Texas border you can see that the barriers cut off significant chunks of land as the river weaves back and forth as rivers do. I don’t know if the estimated length of walling it all means up against the river or not. If it does mean right along the river, then that may be 3 times the current wall length in those areas.
