On Jan. 17, President Trump tweeted: “No ‘Cave’ on the issue of Border and National Security.” Eight days later, he caved, agreeing to reopen the government for three weeks without getting a penny for his border wall. His right-wing allies are spluttering in rage, but they shouldn’t be surprised. This debacle confirms that Trump is not the “ultimate negotiator” he purports to be. He is, in fact, a lousy negotiator. Now he may be on the verge of concluding the worst deals of the century by pulling U.S. troops out of South Korea and Afghanistan in return for empty promises from Kim Jong Un and the Taliban.
Trump is preparing for a second summit at the end of February with Kim even though the North Korean dictator continues to expand, rather than dismantle, his nuclear and missile programs. In his New Year’s address, Kim demanded substantial concessions before he would begin to make good on his vague promises of denuclearization made at the June 12, 2018, Singapore summit. He wants a relaxation of sanctions, an end to U.S.-South Korean military exercises, a peace declaration ending the Korean War and the removal of U.S. nuclear weapons from the region.
National security adviser John Bolton, supposedly a hard-liner, just signaled that the administration may give North Korea what it wants. He told the Washington Times, in an interview published Friday, that “what we need from North Korea is a significant sign of a strategic decision to give up nuclear weapons, and it is when we get that denuclearization that the president can begin to take the sanctions off.” So much for the administration’s previous position that the United States would not relax sanctions until North Korea agreed to “complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization.” Bolton is signaling that in exchange for some “significant

Leaving aside the personality of Mr Boot for a moment, anyone who can’t even handle pelousy while she’s painted herself into a seriously bad corner politically, as she did with her partial shutdown, that person’s ability to negotiate well with others is indeed called into question. Hahaha... the sting of Pelosi getting spanked by losing her free ride and vacation on the taxpayer dime for her family and fellow commie thugs in congress still hurts.
That’s why something like this gets written. It’s like a soothing salve on that big Trump hand print on her scrawny butt.
Unfortunately Trump was no match for a demented old lady and a slimy worm. He has to learn how to exercise his constitutional power. As Commander in Chief, without declaring an emergency, he can order the Army Corp of Engineers to build a wall to protect the United States from a security threat he deems real. He can use existing funds allocated to the Pentagon. This is not a reality TV show. there is no producer to hand him a script that has him firing the culprits at the end of the show and the audience goes to bed happy. He has to learn to wield power. He can start by appointing hard nosed advisors and administrators who actually endorse his agenda. The old globalist generals and the neo cons he trusted did all they could to scuttle his agenda. Hopefully he has learned and been stung by this experience. We’ll see.

Back in the wake of 9/11, it was harder to find a more pro-war member of the conservative establishment than Max Boot. Boot has now spent abour two decades advocating for non-stop global war in pursuit of an American empire than he he wholeheartedly endorses.
Nor am I putting words in his mouth. Boot, after all, wrote an article in 2001 called “The Case for American Empire.” He has been an unabashed proponent of bombing and starving foreigners in pursuit of nation-building and “spreading democracy.” He’s a vociferous defender of torture. American taxpayers, of course, get to pay for it all, both in terms of tax dollars, and in the ongoing shredding of the Bill of Rights which Boot supports. Most of the interventions Boot supports have done little more than make the world safe of Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups that have sprung up in the wake of Boot’s favored regime changes. And don’t expect a mea culpa on any of that any time soon.
