The idea of secession needs to become acceptable, before it can happen.
Right now most Americans are of the opinion that the Civil War decided the matter of secession. In other words they buy into the might makes right theory of politics. So even in States where one might hope it would be possible to form a political movement for secession, there is almost zero support for it. People who call for it are branded as kooks. The most common refrain in dismissing them is that was settled in the Civil War.
Therefore, those who favor the deconstruction of the USA into smaller less destructive States, have two tasks that need to be undertaken simultaneously: make secession an acceptable idea again, and simultaneously lay the groundwork for one or more specific secessions that are pleasing to our communities.
A lot of people are working on the latter task, but no one is really working on the former. Sure there are occasional articles and books on the topic of the South was legally right in their secession, but that only has fringe appeal, and such arguments quickly becomes bogged down in discussions of slavery.
A new approach is needed to advance the concept of secession as a viable option for the United States.
The best way to make the secession idea acceptable is to find the most sympathetic poster child for the cause, and promote them. This is a proven tactic that the Left uses constantly, and effectively.
In the USA the most sympathetic poster child for secession is Hawaii.
Hawaii, unlike all other states, was an independent nation with diplomatic recognition from many other states, for decades, prior to incorporation into the USA. It had an undisputed government, and an equally clear indigenous people who the islands belonged to. The Hawaiians had been the sole inhabitants of the islands for at least 1000 years.
The Kingdom of Hawaii lasted from 1795 until its overthrow in 1893. This is a historical fact which is not subject to dispute. While their are some other short lived Republics in American history, all of them were essentially interregnums.
Vermont, which was reluctant to join the Union, was the longest holdout in the Revolutionary period. From 1777 to 1791 they were an independent entity, although their sovereignty was in question until the British surrender in 1781. Their entrance into the Union was both a democratic exercise and voluntary.
The Republic of Texas also lasted about 10 years, from the defeat of Mexico until the successful bid to join the United States, in 1845. This was preceded by an election where a large majority of Texans approved of Statehood.
In marked contrast, the much older Hawaiian Monarchy was overthrown by a small group of white citizens of Hawaii who were backed by the United States government, including the US Marines.
This is therefore, the perfect modern morality play. We can use the Lefts own themes against them. A successful country run by brown people and for brown people was violently overthrown by white men. A successful female head of state was deposed and replaced with a man. It is a clear case of neo-colonialism.
If a large enough secession movement could win a referendum in Hawaii it would be very very difficult for a Democratic run government to do anything but grant the secession. Those opposing it would be branded as racists, sexists, colonialists and fascists.
One can easily imagine thought leaders of the Democratic Party like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Maxine Waters making impassioned speeches, and President Michelle Obama signing the resulting law granting Hawaii independence.
At that point the floodgates are opened, and the rest of the States and regions seeking independence can flow through them.
The USA was built to last, it is as strong as the Roman republic!!!!
Great analogy.
Democrats want to keep the borders open to continue their wave of new democrat voters. The American experiment at the tipping point, and eventually, we will be screwed. The WALL is our last hope and Nanc and Trump know this.
This country cant survive as a 50-state entity. Its far too divided now. Great nations have formed and later divided throughout history. A peaceful transition to a two or three-region division is going to have to be sought and achieved. Liberal states led by the heavily populated behemoths of CA and NY dont want to coexist peacefully with the conservative bastions of this country; they want to destroy and rule them with an iron fist.
America of the 1950s is over and done with; theres no going back.
“The USA was built to last, it is as strong as the Roman Republic!!!!”
Surely you jest. We are at the stage in our history where the Roman Republic became a dictatorship. Internal bickering, government out of touch with the people, freebies for everybody, debased currency, etc.
All that is needed is for the Emporor to seize power.
Secession is one thing. Getting all the rats to move to the states that secede will be much harder but if they don’t they will slowly turn all states into rat states because they multiply like, well, rats.
Unfortunately the solution in this world for the not getting along problem would be a civil war.Or more like when Moses came back from the mountain and had to kill all the idol worshippers with his brother Aaron.
USA is gone now, really. We dont really have borders right now. We dont really have our own currency. We have tens of millions of illegal invaders that protest e masse making demands on OUR government that OUR government is only to eager to meet. Our military is largely deployed into war zones where most citizens cant find on it on a map and literally NO ONE knows exactly what the mission is or even, really, just who the bad guys even are. Fortunately the casualties are almost zero so no one cares. I could go on and on. So could you. There is just no going back because what we once had is gone. There is no going back to mom raising the kids. There is no going back to teaching Civics or even real critical reasoning in an educational system that is 100% subverted to communism and socialism. Just imagine, would anyone have believed 50 years ago the US would come to a place where the decision is Socialism vs full blown Communism? Would anyone of us have believed just 5 years ago that Americans would in any numbers at all agree with the statement Healthcare is a RIght? Yet here we are on all these things.
Just my humble opinion but I assert the America most of us think we are defending doesnt even exist at this point.
And therein lies the conundrum. We all may feel we are preparing for the day and most of us actually have and are pretty prepared. But the fact is, while we are pissed off af we arent actually real killers. I mean run straight at somebody and stick a 10 bayonet in their neck, killers. We just arent. So even though they so desperately need killing we just arent ever going to actually do it.
I recently watched that Izzy Stone documentary All Governments Lie and it occurred to me most of these people in the documentary almost every freeper would consider to be a libtard journalist and so do I but as I listened to these people I found it interesting that I and I do believe most freepers actually AGREE with them on quite a number of points. The thing that really flabbergasted me was Izzy Stones ENTIRE 70 year career consisted of calling out the Mainstream Media for FAKE NEWS. Isnt that funny? Even the makers of this documentary very specifically call out NBC, CNN, NYTimes, WaPo, etc. as being FAKE NEWS. Michael Moore calls out the brown shirt media for being FAKE NEWS. I find it fascinating that we are at each others throats and ready to kill each other when we actually agree about 80% on what our problems are and who is causing them and yet we want to kill each other. Very interesting.
I honestly think our only chance to avoid civil war IS secession. Some whole states need to go. Some states themselves need to be broken up. I know in my own native Florida, Greater Miami might as well be South New Jersey combined with Latin America. North Florida is the heart of Dixie. These two will never agree about anything. Its better that they separate. Everybody will be much happier that way. Its the same in several other states (eg the Left Coast from the rest of Washington, Oregon and California...Chicago from the rest of Illinois, Occupied Northern Virginia from the rest of Virginia, etc etc).
What the Founders created was a voluntary union based on consent. The whole thing was an experiment. It was never intended to be a giant prison that shackled people together who have totally different world views AND one in which power is highly centralized - ie what it is now. That is a guaranteed recipe for an all out fight to see who gets to impose his worldview on others. It cannot be otherwise. So we either radically reverse the centralization of power that took place over the last 150+ years or we need to go our separate ways. Otherwise I fear there will be a bloodbath followed by lots of oppression.
Im afraid youre right, NT.
Agreed. We absolutely must realize that, really, our goals are wrong. We would like to think we could preserve our values of Liberty and Individualism but these things have been eroded so much as to be historical concepts. The age where grandma and grandpa lived next door or even under the same roof are long gone. For over 90% of America I am guessing grandpa is at least three states away and seen for a few days or hours a year. While we all have safes full of guns and reloading benches capable of reloading a dozen calibers how many of us have grandchildren that understand how or even the importance of these skills. We cant return to an earlier era that probably was not what we thought it was even though we lived through it. I mean, I was 5 years old in the 50s. What did I really know about them even though I was there? Trump is just a transient disturbance for the Deep State, as far as they are concerned.
Theres your bumper sticker. Congrats. We were never intended to be prisoners shackled together. Good job.
Well, just call me kooky...
I read one thing recently that really sparked some thought I am still struggling to digest. Paraphrasing: The mistake we made in the US is to make The Individual our highest ideal. In reality the smallest political unit is a REPLICATIING UNIT (hat tip Tucker), a father, a mother, and the child. This is the smallest political unit and this should be our highest priority. In this context Tucker makes sense. The Constitution is not a suicide pact and We are not condemned prisoners shackled together by a tyrannical government yet here we are.
People in Texas would take exception to that.
It seems to me that the "dimocraps" murder most of their offspring... That's why they want, and need, open borders with Mexico. They're starting to run short of uneducated, dumb ass poor people that vote for them... Well, that and the narcotics..
And the killing of a baby on the due date option and applaud it recieved is just one more sign of the evil we are dealing with
Exactly! Drugs and abortion have depleted the leftists numbers, so they’re now quickly importing new voters from third world countries.
