The Baltimore City school board voted unanimously to oppose a measure that would have allowed school police officers to carry weapons during the day.
The school board’s vote effectively kills HB31, which would have overturned a previous prohibition on school police officers carrying guns in schools.
Del. Cheryl D. Glenn, a Democrat who sponsored the bill, said she would be withdrawing the proposed legislation from the General Assembly.
“I can’t move a bill that doesn’t have the support of the school board and the mayor,” she said. “The votes wouldn’t be there.”
The 10-0 opposition vote took place at a meeting Tuesday night at school headquarters on North Avenue after a lively public forum in which students, parents and members of the police union voiced their opinions both in favor and against the bill, each side citing data and other evidence to bolster their arguments.
The roughly 90 city schools police officers are allowed to carry their service weapons while patrolling the exterior of school buildings before and after school hours. But they are required to store their weapons in a secure location during the school day.

They really don’t need them in Baltimore. All the students there are already armed to the teeth. School shootings are pretty much impossible in an all black urban school.

In this case, you’d be better off to hire non-functioning police (giving them even a different title) for school protection. I’d go and call them Public Peace Officers, and dress them up in white suits so that they stand out. And I would even go and suggest that when you hold school board meetings....only Public Peace Officers provide protection there for the members. This way, no one gets confused about their job or function.

In soccer (football in Europe) if the referee gives you two yellow cards you are out. One red card means immediate out. The solution to school shootings is very simple. The unarmed police should be given a stack of yellow and red cards to give to the murderous bastards. Two yellow cards and you are out, one red card and you are out and must stop killing.

Police ought to pull out of the area and any and all ‘security guards’ for the Board etc should be pulled, signs posted around the schools of absolutely NO GUNS then arrest the bodyguards.

Why don’t they just model School Security after Broward. Have all the LEO’s stand safely outside and just count the shots going off inside.
