President Trump said late Wednesday that he would deliver his State of the Union address after the ongoing partial government shutdown is over.
"As the Shutdown was going on, Nancy Pelosi asked me to give the State of the Union Address," Trump wrote in a tweet. "I agreed. She then changed her mind because of the Shutdown, suggesting a later date. This is her prerogative - I will do the Address when the Shutdown is over."
Trump clarified earlier statements suggesting he may do an “alternative” State of the Union, writing that he was not seeking an alternative venue because "there is no venue that can compete with the history, tradition and importance of the House Chamber."
"I look forward to giving a “great” State of the Union Address in the near future!" he added.
“I respect the decision he has made”
I agree and don’t think agreeing to wait until he can deliver it in the House chamber is a big deal. As unconventional as he is, Trump honors more tradition than he is given credit for.
He can still speak to the public in any other venue he chooses. Right now I think he really wants to get the shutdown over and might prefer that happen before addressing the nation. Anything he says now will be diluted by the media because of the shutdown.
Trump isn’t surrendering - he’s just giving nancy more rope. Her greedy selfish power hungry mind will think he surrendered or that she won some thing, but in reality she will lose bigger.

That’s the game by the left. They want him to give the speech somewhere else without the trappings of official Washington.

When the dust settles, he’s going to have Pelosi’s mirkin hanging on the Oval Office Wall!
My kneejerk reaction is “no, don’t give in” but after reading his tweet I get the feeling he’s just giving her all the rope she wants.
Unless the vast majority of the Congress Critters in the House, take down over Botoxed Nancy, she will NEVER give Trump the almost 6 Billion for the wall! And IF Trump caves, the libtards and COMMIES win and WE lose!

The shutdown brakes are off now. Nasty is still the villain and we’ll see how the vote to reopen goes tomorrow. I wanted Nasty’s arse kicked. I can wait. Wonder how the DACA folks and the furloughed folks feel? Can they wait? Could be a while now.
Spastic Nan will be out of excuses after the govt reopens and if POTUS gets the wall money, we get to see each and every facial contortion, and perhaps even her teeth fall out as he speaks. I don’t know his strategery, but I’ll wait.
It’s not the same thing to hold it in th eSenate chamber. Trump has taken the right position on this, it’s not a battle to take right now, the wall is. And this just makes her look smaller and smaller.
Trump's H1B moves are already troubling, offering 3-year DACA extension WITH work permits and government benefits is even more troubling. One-upping Pelosi is nothing compared to these.
The SOTU was his opportunity to inform the people of the side they aren’t getting from Big Media. He just gave that up. I understand Pelosi is an idiot but, even though some Dems are standing up to her, Big Media will never cross her. BUT they wouldn’t even think of not broadcasting the SOTU, even in the face of Pelousi’s anger. Trump has missed a great opportunity here. The Senate Chamber would be more than adequate as a venue for the SOTU.
