Tax rates at 70% and above were in effect until JFK cut them.

The top rate was at 70% and above until it was cut to 50% during the Reagan administration in 1981. It stayed at 50% until Reagan signed the Tax Reform Act of 1986 and cut it to 28%. They promised it would never need to go up, but of course that promise was broken just 3 years later during the Bush administration, and then increased again to 39.6% during the Clinton administration.

Here's what the Left really doesn't want you to know: None of these changes had any significant effect on the amount of actually received in income taxes. Individual income tax receipts increased steadily throughout all of these changes. We would not see a significant reduction in individual income tax receipts until the Bush tax cuts in 2001 (but we would be back to record collections by 2006).

“Soaking the rich” never impacts those who are already rich. It only affects those who ASPIRE to become one of the “rich”.

“Trickle down” really is a thing. The less there is to “trickle down”, the more the lower levels are negatively affected.

If you want the sparrows to not starve, you have to feed the horses. This bit of folk wisdom has been somehow lost on recent generations.

JFK’s initial proposal was to reduce the top rate from 91% to 65%. He did not live to see the proposal enacted.

Countering the deceptive idea that the economy would be raised by trickle down, JFK correctly compared the economic motion to the sea. A rising tide lifts all boats.

Critical to the Left is the claim that the tax rate cuts would cost tax revenue. They pretend that rates and revenues are the same.

It would be hard to find someone more ignorant about economics than the American voter.
