i dont know... I kinda agree with this in a way... So many times I tell the clerks to just toss the rcpt... and places like Home Depot, waste sooooo much paper with unnecessary bs on it. truly is a waste of paper.

On the rare times I visit CVS (just don't like shopping there) I a) have to say "no I don't want to give you my email" and b) no I don't want to give to that charity today and c) get a register receipt the length of a city block filled mostly with coupons I will not use.
But I do want paper receipts. I don't want every non-cash transaction in my email. Just keep the receipts to basic facts.

As a life long bookkeeper/accounting person, I certainly hope that you NEVER get an IRS audit.
Own your own home? Do repairs or improvements? YOU MUST HAVE the receipts when you are calculating your capital gain profits on the sale of your property.

A simple programming change to registers is all that is needed; along with THIS question:
Would you like a receipt?
