Freedom Foundation: Boise ignores Idaho Constitution, residents burdened by debt

Boise, ID—Today, the Idaho Freedom Foundation announced a lawsuit against the city of Boise regarding its abuse of the urban renewal process. The Idaho Freedom Foundation, the state’s leading voice for taxpayers, asserts that Boise is violating Idaho’s Constitution through urban renewal.

The Idaho Constitution requires that local government entities receive a two-thirds endorsement from voters before taking on debt. IFF contends, constitutionally-required voter approval of new debt is avoided when Boise Mayor Dave Bieter and the city council use urban renewal mechanisms.

IFF believes a recent example of a constitutional end-run occurred in December when city councilors approved the formation of two urban renewal districts that will collectively take on $120 million in debt.

“Boise, through its abuse of urban renewal, is shutting out taxpayers to fund expensive pet projects,” IFF President Wayne Hoffman said. “The people who pay the bills, hardworking Idahoans, should have the opportunity to vote on debt-funded projects, as laid out in the Idaho Constitution.”

IFF filed the suit on behalf of six Ada County property owners: Hoffman, Bob Tikker, Andrea Lanning, IFF Vice President Fred Birnbaum, Bruce Boyles, and G&G Ventures, a Boise-based small business.

If state and local government leaders are ignoring the Idaho Constitution, then consider the following.

The Founding States made the Constitution’s Article IV, Section 4 to guarantee each state in the Union a republican form of government.

"Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government [emphasis added], and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."

So if the voters of any state are being oppressed by state constitution-Ignoring state actors then the feds have the power to make penal laws to discourage state officials from pushing citizens around imo.

H O W E V E R …

We’re still stuck with a Congress that is infamous for not lifting a finger to make laws to discourage state governments from making things difficult for their citizens.

The remedy for misguided state leaders ...

All patriots in the country need to come to the rescue of citizens in Idaho, California and New York as examples, by electing a patriot Congress in the 2020 elections that will not only support PDJT’s vision for MAGA, but will also do its constitutional duty to make and enforce laws that discourage state actors from ignoring state constitution protections.

I am a paying member of the Idaho Freedom Foundation...a first rate organization.

They recently managed to torpedo a clever little scam where state elected politicians would exit government only to be hired as consultants by state gov agencies and they would then pad their government retirement status.

Quite the little hoax that Freedom Foundation exposed and finally ended.

Dave Bieter is a Democrat. That’s all you need to know about him.

Has the IFF informed potential lenders that any “borrowing”, which is not authorized in accordance with Idaho’s Constitution, will be deemed to be a “gift” and NOT repaid?

As some one from Oregon with multi-generational roots in the state, let me assure the old timers in Idaho and Montana that the liberals from Oregon and Washington are Californians, or the offspring of Californians, who are looking for other places to suck dry after having destroyed the coastal states of the North West. Best of luck.

Both...actually, more GOPe...due to the fact that establishment repubs pretty much control the state.
