The new co-ed Navy, which consents to conducting same-sex marriages but could not avoid a forced “union” with a foreign ship.

Don't miss the supplementary column at extreme right.

You will have to scroll over extra for that.

Sounds like primary responsibility on the captain, but plenty of blame to go around to all officers and senior NCOs. Also one or two layers of command above the captain.

This was Obama’s navy. Was/is this lack of care by Navy command service wide? Does the rot extend far, into other branches?

I have never read such a breath taking horror about out navy. Political correctness now has killed over 20 seaman and jeopardized the security of America. This cooper woman apparently drove the ship recklessly into a busy sea lane killing 10 and causing $100,000,000 in taxpayer losses. She was ordered to take a test on her officer proficiency and she defied orders. I want to know why she is not being court Martialed and shot!!

One of my first jobs involved me working with a much older retired merchant mariner.
He told me his captain told them when on the bridge to give all military vessels a wide berth since you never knew what they were going to do. - tom,

I know I'm a landlubber, but this is shocking to me. In my Army, a commander was expected to be awake and in active command during all critical maneuvers.

And a filthy, urine stained CIC? Sure sounds like lack of discipline.

My father, a Kings Point graduate who was a merchant marine officer for years and a Navy officer during the Korean War, was astonished at the Fitgerald collision and immediately suspected that it was due to persistent USN slackness in standards and habits in standing watch. In the Merchant Marine, lapses in keeping watch can quickly result in getting dropped from the crew. Not so in the USN, where lines of responsibility are often unclear and lapses are not always reprimanded and corrected.

I was a mmcs(SW). Mostly engineroom operator. As part of the surface warfare thing in the late 70’s I recall having to learn rudimentary ship handling. Evidently the Navy has significantly reduced it’s standards. Glad I’m not there to witness it

0bama’s navy personnel were busy taking diversity training instead of learning how to navigate a warship at sea.

This is the guaranteed results you get when allowing women to serve in the military - especially on board naval vessels.

WOMEN DO NOT BELONG IN AMERICA’S ARMED FORCES. PERIOD!

And I really don’t give a rat’s a$$ if there are women on FR who object to my stating so.

The probe exposes how personal distrust led the officer of the deck, Lt. j.g. Sarah Coppock,

Someone care to clue me in on why there was a female acting as OOD while this tin can was underway?

Sent this to my son who is a Navy pilot. Asked him, “Is the whole Navy this screwed up? I hope not. But I have to wonder……Lord help us if we ever have to fight a war……..but I suspect that if the USN is this bad, the Russians have to be worse…..Chinese?

They are the scary ones - Asians are incredibly disciplined, hard-working and not spoiled……..

The women who were in charge of different parts of the ship that night were pissed at each other and not talking. People died because women were in charge and would not talk to each other and were not trained due to lower standards being implemented.

Consider the perspective of the Skipper. He wanted be promoted to be Captain and to be set on the path to a Flag. Having females on the bridge and in the key positions in the CIC was essential elements of his success. The problem is that female line officers had been selected on their basis of gender rather than on leadership or seamanship. Many females are capable of sea at command or technical seamanship, but those numbers are insufficient to meet the political requirements. The result is disasters like this.

Perhaps a good way to select good politicians like Alexandria Ocasiso-Castro, but not a good way to select competent Naval seafarers.

Women should not be in these positions. There's a difference between men and women that people need to accept. It's not sexist, or insulting, to accept the biological differences between genders.

Nothing in this report surprises me. All I had to see was the rust running down the sides of the ship from the scuppers.

No money, no maintenance, no morale and no consequences.

Lowered standards. Socialism.

Jeez, what a damning report. No wonder the Navy sat on it. Considering that partial blame shot up to Navy back in the States, it seems insufficient heads rolled.

Given the massive amount of Navy regulations, you’d think it wouldn’t make much difference between one Commanding Officer or another. But I’ve experienced radical changes when new OICs come on station. There’s an amazing amount of leeway.
