Levin: ‘The president of the United States is going to give a speech to the nation, whether Pelosi

Levin suggested that instead of having a rally in lieu of the State of the Union address, the president should hold the address in the Senate.

“The United States Capitol building, ladies and gentlemen, belongs to you. It does not belong to Nancy Pelosi. It doesn’t belong to the Democrats. The president of the United States is going to give a speech to the nation, whether Pelosi likes it or not. And he ought to give the speech to the nation from the same building as every other president has used. And do it from the Senate: Explain that it’s perfectly safe and secure there, call her out in a very statesman-like way, and explain what he’s having to deal with. If he goes out in the country, in Kansas, or Wyoming, or Montana, or whatever it is (North Carolina), it kind of loses its environment and its appeal, as far as I’m concerned. The American people need to know what’s going on, that it’s not just another rally.”

Normally, the opposition party makes a rebuttal to the Presidential address. If Nancy does cancel the House speech, will they still insist on a rebuttal whether he speaks from the Senate, White House, or other venue? Will Nancy and Chuck dare to team up again for a response?

Does anyone want to bet whether or not Chuck and Nancy will demand a transcript of his speech beforehand so they can prepare their rebuttal?

Then it becomes just another rally of supporters. He can do another rally later. I’m with Levin. Stand up to Chuck and Nancy and do it in the Senate.

I disagree. True, it would be a rally, but it would be a rally telling the supporters, the world, and especially Pigosi and Sh***tmer that He is of the people, by the people, and for the people. Like the fast food for the Clemson players. They have been on strict diets all year, do this, do that, eat this, eat that. Now they are champions and let them celebrate by being able to act like normal young people and have a gob of pizza or a Big Mac double or ....

Pigosi especially is afraid of what he will say. By doing it in the Capital or DC she can respond by saying President Trump is just catering to his Republican cohorts. If done in a stadium then the audience is more than just the elite, it is US (pun intended).

Wrong, Mr. Levin, it is not what “every other President has used” for SofU....

Doing it as a speech to Congress is a 20th century tradition only, started with Woodrow Wilson.

I for one would be delighted if POTUS Trump decides to start a new “tradition” — perhaps one of changing locations of a SofU address. I’m sick to death of all the posturing and preening by politicians on both sides of the aisle at the SofU, the applause lines and the Demagogues trying not to applaud Trump etc., but seeing the Demoncraps is worst of all.

Trump should take it out to the country and establish a new tradition of the President giving a SofU address amidst the real people, and in a new location each year.

The only constitutional requirement is that the President report “from time to time” to Congress, can be in writing and/or orally. POTUS Trump can give the speech wherever he chooses and send the Pelosicrats a written copy!

The President doesn’t have to make it look like a rally and I’m sure he can get most of the audience to act appropriately.

I don’t think so. It would not be treated as a SOTU address if he does that. It would be called a preaching to the choir event and no network coverage.
