Boston Mayor Martin Walsh wants to mandate that Doctors teach patients about gun safety. It appears to be another Orwellian definition. Gun safety in these circumstances seems to mean getting rid of guns. There is no mention of using known gun safety experts who have been working on the subject for decades. From bizjournals.com:
Involving doctors in gun safety: This act would require medical professionals to ask patients about guns in the home, and bring up the topics of gun safety. The goal, Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said, is to identify those at risk for domestic violence, suicide or child access to guns in order to guide people to mental health counseling, resources or other help. “We’re just asking them to help identify ways to save lives,” Gross said.
The fact that a patient owns guns would not be put in their medical record, and is not intended to have physicians help solve crimes.
Chief of Health and Human Services Marty Martinez said that while the program is already common practice at many of the city’s community health centers, legislation would broaden the program statewide.
The claim is the ownership of guns will not be put in a patients medical records. If not, how will the ownership of guns help to “guide people to mental health counseling, resources, or other help”? Maybe the information will be stored somewhere else.

Gun safety should be taught in schools. The NRA will send Eddie Eagle to schools to give them an idea how to teach gun safety.

I stay the hell out of Boston but, if my Dr. asks, I’ll have to relate the sad story of how all my firearms were lost in a tragic canoeing accident. Never could afford to replace them.
They probably hear that more than we think!
Years ago, a freeper, posted a form to give to physicians asking about gun ownership. I used it when my children went to the doctor. We were told not to come back at a couple offices in the twin cities, However, we did have a select few that stated they never ask even though required by policy, but answer the question on their computers as a ‘no’. One of our childrens doctors was also a part time deputy and he told his outfit that he wasn’t subjecting his license to a lawsuit over that question.

Choose your doctor wisely. MY doctor is a hunter, enjoys trapshooting, and of course is a gunowner. He is also very proTrump. My former doctor was also all of the above except he enjoyed skeet. Years of hunting experiences exchanged have made visits for health reasons mostly enjoyable.
Totally agree. Nor is the fact I drink an occasional Beer. Know more about the Meds than they do, as a med sensitive patient, I research every Script, not just for me, Hubby has Glaucoma restrictions the IDIOTS don’t take into account when scripting.
What chaps my 70 yr old hide is your office is in a Crime War zone, and you don’t want my CCW piece in your office and don’t supply a Armed security guard. Then who is to protect me from a serial rapist doctor or should I say PA, APN, NP, seeing a doctor is getting rare, except for Specialist. Have 4 of those.
The Boston "Mayor" could save many more lives by registering and locking up Kennedys than doctors asking about guns.
I saw it on one of those info forms you have to fill out for a new doc. I put a big NA , not applicable, next to it. I use NA in a lot of the blanks on those forms.
