Nice try. I am gerrymandered into a urban black-majority district that is safe Dem. My Congressman doesn't even care about the opinions of the people who DO vote for him, let alone the ones that don't.
Most Americans are in the same boat, about 70-80% of congressional seats are drawn so the opinion of constituents doesn't matter and their Congressmen can freely ignore them without consequence no matter how much they melt down the phone lines in DC.
But the "abolish the 17th amendment" crowd says its all fine and dandy since I can still vote for my Congressman in this rigged district and therefore it reflects the founding fathers wishes. Now if we just take away my vote for Senator in the one election politicians CAN'T rig due to the fact they are unable to gerrymander statewide legislative officials, everything will be splendid.
>> I did get a form letter with my name on it. Full of contradictions and the usual RAT talking points <<
That’s better than what I’d get. My Congressman hasn’t answered ANY constituent mail since about 1999 so. A lot of people wonder if he’s still alive.
I’d probably get a form letter if I wrote my Senator, the aptly named “Dick” Durbin though. And yes it would scripted talking points the DNC handed him.
Mine can't tear themselves away from reading Das Kapital long enough to answer the phone.
