Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez clearly has superpowers. When was the last time a freshman member of Congress was able to not just vault policy issues up the agenda with a remark in an interview or a visit to a protest, but whip much of Washington into such a frenzy of consternation and jealousy?
We don't yet know how Ocasio-Cortez (already known by her initials AOC) will use these powers. But her extraordinary celebrity tells us a good deal about what politics, and the Democratic Party in particular, look like in 2019.
Ocasio-Cortez's rise owes a great deal to her own gifts, but it also had something to do with timing. She was one of two Democrats to defeat a House incumbent in a 2018 primary, and since the national media had largely overlooked the race until her victory and were shocked that she took down a member of the Democratic leadership, she suddenly became a perfect symbol of the election that was underway. A young, charismatic, unapologetically progressive Latina booting out a doughy-looking old-school white guy pol with shoe leather and deft use of social media? You couldn't ask for a better story as Democrats were headed for a historic win driven by women voters.
But as Ocasio-Cortez sailed through the general election an into Washington, she has shown some unusual skills, ones that seem to be driving Republicans absolutely nuts. Despite the occasional misstep, she seems earnest and even joyful (a rare quality), and has become a social media star. She has 2.4 million followers on Twitter and another 1.8 million on Instagram, where she mixes politics, policy, and humor in an appealing combination that few politicians can match.

Cortez makes the old “valley girl” look like a brain surgeon. She is galactically stupid, has absolutely NO knowledge of what she is doing, and proves Peter’s principle of reaching her level of incompetence. I HOPE she keeps talking and showing the world what she is and by proxy, what the demonRAT party is, and has always been. I’m not “scared” of her, but I can’t express my level of contempt for a district that would elect a person like this, and our knowing that whatever STUPID thing she does in Congress affects the rest of us.
True. The media fell in love with her.
And there is no challenging any inane things she says.
If she had been some sort of rising star on the conservative side, she would already have been marginalized. Every statement would be fact checked. Statements such as how too many people focus on precise facts instead of some overall “moral right” would be criticized instead of glossed over.
On Varney this morning they were laughing about how old Joe Liberman made some critical remark about her and she said she had no idea who Joe Loserman was. LOL!
Anyone who thinks that “AOC” beating Joseph Crowley in the primary wasn’t orchestrated, just isn’t thinking. Like Illinois, the winners of New York elections are well planned out, ahead of time. She’s a toofer -— they got a young, energetic (I didn’t say bright) socialist elected, and Pelosi didn’t have to worry about Crowley running against her for Speaker.
AOC is where she is because the DNC, et al, WANTS her there. The fact that she’s stupid doesn’t bother them in the least; the House is full of useful idiots. She’s been put there for many reasons, not the least of which is to excite equally stupid millennials into voting.
AOC is a facist in Gucci shoes. Her “democratic socialism” is the same old despotic Marxism in a flashy package.
We should call her Dizzy
It is not far fetched to see that 60 million American idiots would vote for her as President. I remember Obama running the first time and the sycophants were complete drones driven by emotionalism.
This should have all Americans unsettled, not just Republicans.
The MSM is sure promoting Occasional-Cortex.
Well, it is entertaining...

She’s dumber than a bag of hammers but...dayum she’s hot.
She can steal tips from a tip jar with lightening speed
