COLUMBIA FALLS, MONT. Some visitors to Glacier National Park in Montana have been ignoring longstanding rules on walking dogs in the park since the government shutdown began.
Nearly all of Glacier's trails are closed to dogs, leashed or not, all year long. Closed roads are considered trails in the winter months and also are closed to dogs. Trails and roads closed to dogs are clearly marked.
But the Hungry Horse News reports that a number of people have been seen walking dogs in the park since the shutdown. One party recently had six dogs, including three not on leashes.
The dog regulations have been on the books for decades to protect both wildlife and the public.
Alone in grizzly country I’d want a dog.
What shutdown?
The irony? Try that argument on a lib. Social justice allows them to pick and choose the laws they like and those they choose to ignore. And they can change their minds, depending on the direction of the political winds.
See tagline.
Alone in grizzly country Id want a dog.

Id prefer to have my .357 magnum and leave my Golden Retriever at home.
The horror! And they are probably not rescue dogs!
The Horror;)
My God! We’re doomed! The illegal scofflaws continue to invade across our border illegally and no one seems to care about that.
OMG! Whatever will we do!?
I read a book written by one of the first Europeans in Montana.
He was with a group of people and one dog.
The dog was named something like Squee Squee.
The dogs favorite pastime was to go out and rile up a grizzly bear.
He would then lead the bear through the camp.
The journal had several entries like this:
That damn Squee Squee went out and brought another grizzly to run through our camp. The dog and bear went through the camp several times and I swear that dog was smiling as he went by.
“What shutdown?”
Excellent point. The only things shut down are the non-essential elements of our government.
The parks for example, each one should be turned over to their state for operation. Many red states with great economies have state parks that make fed parks look like homeless camps. My point here is, individual states can run them better.
Just lease each park to it’s representative state for a few decades and see what happens. The same conservation rules could apply, just different managers. I bet they’d really improve.
My thoughts exactly. A grizzly may want a dog, too. For a snack. And Goldens just want to have fun with their people. Just make sure you play with them before you leave them at home
Crisis, what crisis?
All in all if this FedGov semi partial shutdown goes on until the next elections in 2020. No big deal to me.
The dog for an early warning to draw the pistol.
No not the only one, but thanks for pointing it out to the less perceptive, guys like me. I like the “longstanding rules” bit, and “signs clearly marked” part.
Yeah, it seems to me there are longstanding federal laws against crashing the border and setting up for “welfare benefits” leeching off the long abused taxpayer.
F these people who write crap like this. Walk your dog in the park? Yes, most definitely a Serious Crisis.
I could shoot a charging near better if my Golden wasn’t jumping up into my arms to get away.
Poor little house in the country
18 dogs and an M-16 for company
Those cowboys coming over the horizon
Theyll be looking for some hospitality
Come on in, boys, the door is wide open
But I warn you my dogs are born to win
Ill take the greatest of pleasure
In watching you torn limb from limb ...
Am I the only one that sees the irony here? Harping on people ignoring dog laws but not caring about illegals crossing into the US
Its got a good beat, Dick, and I can dance to it so Ill give it an 83.
