Trump says United States is having tremendous success with China on trade (huh?)
Crazy Banana ^ | 1/12/2019 | Antoinette Montgomery

American officials said during their discussions they relayed Trump's commitment to addressing trade deficit concerns and resolving structural issues affecting trade between the two countries.

(please see the full article, at the link)

I really don't see what Trump is talking about, but I do not have access to our trade delegation either.

Maybe he is seeing something different.

What I am seeing, is we just set the worst trade deficit in all recorded history, with China.

The worst ever.

Worst. Between any two countries. Ever.

It is not improving. It is getting worse.

I am all for Trump, but DO SOMETHING please.

Good job though.

:D

“Try reading Michael Pillsbury.”

Or even Betty Crocker.

Bring back jobs to America, Mr. President.

You are the biggest broken record on Free Republic. Maybe that why you changed your handle.

Nope.

I changed my handle when I moved to Vietnam.

I may take my original back, when I return to America.

I have been opposed to the systematic anti-American agenda which (both) political parties have embarked upon for the entire last generation and a half.

Both parties.

I might be a broken record, but I am consistent.

Mr. President Trump, you ran on this issue. America.

That is why you won.

I have no complaints about what you have done. But I, in my humble opinion, think strongly you have been intimidated into not doing what you truly believe in your heart is absolutely right, by the huge financial costs to so many companies which have sold out to China.

I understand.

But you were elected by people, who agreed with you.

You said you would.

Just saying...

Just saying...

Sure you are.

Trump will never live up to your standards.

It is very complicated. For example, a person who used to make vig getting cars into China from US around the tariff, is out of a job. But that is good. In fact, one person I know kinda like that, loves Trump. They making their scratch elsewhere now. But things are changing. The US economy and the US Government, likewise the Chinese counterparts, are like oil tankers. You have to starting turning real early. Lol.

Maybe not.

But I and a whole bunch of Americans, voted for the guy based on what he said when he was running.

It is why he won.

I get that his opponent, all of his opponents in both parties, were (all) infinitely worse. All of them.

But he said what he said. He said our trade situation with China was bad, and needed to change (it did, and it does) and he said we needed a wall with Mexico.

I agree with that. I completely agree with that.

A lot of us agreed with Trump, from the beginning.

Those were the two biggest issues for me. And they were the reason, in my opinion, that he is president right now.

They are why he won.

I don’t know if he will not live up to the very high expectations we all have of him.

But I also have a lot of confidence in him. Even now.

But he promised.

If he doesn’t live up to that expectation, I suspect someone else will become stronger in two years.

But right now, Trump is on top. He said a lot, which a lot of people very much agreed with.

It is time, for him to live up to the very high expectations, we have of him.

GREAT JOB, so far.

But don’t let up for an inch. Not with China, and not with the democrats.

You won.

Act like it...

(Sir)

Very sincerely.

Too dumb to even talk to.

Stay worried. I’m sure it will help.

“Eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-swing, batter!”

Nope. No strike. The Trump Administration is still negotiating in the Asian bazaar with cool calculation for the home run. ;-D

How about we Americans start a real campaign to stop buying from the East in general?

Oh, yes, the “wall.” Maybe we could get impatient and develop an American social wall against the southern countries and the East. How ‘bout them apples?

China was robbing us blind. Trump is putting an end to that and putting our trade on an even footing.

That is a tremendous success re: trade.

Am reading Michael Pillsbury. He knows what he is talking about (though his book is somewhat dated).

Also reading bits and pieces of Steven Mosher. Mosher said the other day on Fox Biz that Xi is installing Communist Party oversight committees in every company with 50+ employees. The Party is ending the hybrid economy and taking it back to full-on top-down Communist Party control.

Trump is fully aware of this and is on the case.

Hope all is well with you, Onyx.

If they’re still talking, we’re good. Don’t forget the slumping Chinese economy overall, which is nothing new. China is getting top-heavy, with a military looking outward and spending like mad dogs instead of a government looking inward. The Trade will work out, and time will tell how the Chinese economy deals with quantum change as they deal with changes in NK while they shed the skin and privileges of ‘developing nation/emerging market’.

What I am seeing, is we just set the worst trade deficit in all recorded history, with China.

This is the result of increased economic growth in the United States since 2016 coupled with the outdated trade/tariff regime that the Trump administration inherited.

I'd also like to see the final numbers with the tariffs collected from China added back in before declaring 2018 as the 'worst ever'.

Its hard to argue Trump has not brought home jobs but the fact is the economy is robust and people have money to spend....and the vast majority of the stuff comes from China. This certainly wont change overnight. Look at Chinas economy now and going forward. Trump has disrupted their plans bigly. China is caving in regularly. You cant look at one metric and decide the trade war is a loss. Its more comprehensive than that.
