The country would face an economic hellscape if the government shutdown lasts "months or even years," as the president has suggested it might, experts tell NBC News.
The doomsday scenario might be unlikely — the longest the federal government has ever shut down is 21 days, a record that will fall if the current closure lasts until Saturday — but it is chilling.
"We'll be in no man's land," Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics, told NBC News.
If the worst were to happen, experts say the devastating impact would be widespread:

The word Doomsday should be reserved for the actual day.
The govt shutdown is more on the level of squeezing skin blemishes.
I try to cut my withholdings just low enough to escape the under payment penalty. And I can pay tax due on April 15th.
Just declare exemptions on your W-4, to reduce the withholding.

You're right. Every year I pay the IRS, and it may come to a screeching halt. I read somewhere we won't be allowed to have extra dollars withheld, however it may be media fake news.
Time will tell.
The shutdown could end in a heartbeat if so willed by the Democrats. It is only common sense that American citizens should be protected from crime and disease carried into our country by illegal aliens. The Democrats strongly supported a wall, so what is the issue for them? The amount of money is not really an issue either; we spend more on sugar subsidies.
Do the Democrats want to destroy our country? Do they believe in enforcing the laws? Why are they hurting themselves? Is their hate for Trump greater than their love of country and the people who elected them?
Why are Pelosi and Schumer putting us all at risk? Why do they want the killing to continue?
And here’s what to do. Private sector employees, keep working and take all of the work you can get. Bosses, hire more people, if you can. Consumers, make a few improvements at home.
Show them a greater Trump boom. Be cheerful. Spread the glee! ;-)

That plus the wall means their guaranteed power and never having to win another legitimate election is lost...so wall means they get busy dying instead of getting busy living.
