Bloomberg says he’d self-fund possible 2020 White House bid
AP News ^ | 11 Jan 19 | Will Weissert

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says that if he runs for president, he’ll pay for it himself, defending candidates who use personal riches to bankroll campaigns.

Bloomberg’s comments to reporters in Texas on Friday follow a jab from another top 2020 contender. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren recently decried the Democratic presidential nomination becoming “one more plaything that billionaires can buy.”

Hopefully he will run as an Independent. He will siphon votes from the flawed democratic candidate. Trump may even carry California.

He’d siphon votes from both sides. Though likely most of his votes would come from places that know him or would warm to him: CA, IL, NJ, CT, NY... so you may be right.

Perot payback.

I have little doubt that Joe will be the nominee. Not sure who would be his mate, perhaps Kamala.

Bloomberg is selling Bloomberg LP, presumably in preparation for 2020. His estimated net worth is $50b. If he merely spent $15b, that would be 10x all of the spending of all of the nomination contests and general election campaigns in 2016 combined. 10x what everyone else spent, combined, was what it took for him to occupy Gracie Mansion for 3 terms in NYC. I’d expect Bloomberg to spend at least billions in a presidential run. As a man who became a multi-billionaire from essentially nothing, and swept aside long-established financial data companies like Thomson and Reuters, Bloomberg is a formidable personality.

Bloomberg’s a sharp cookie. He will run as a Dem or not at all.

Gee, it would be too bad if he spent his fortune on the election and lost.

Actually Bloomberg has billions, not just millions, and he owns a cable TV network. He is very BORING and nanny-state bossy, both of which will suppress enthusiasm for his candidacy.

Yes, he’s one of the main constituents funding attacks against our Second Amendment. The next Supreme Court justice had better be the best we can be sure of and not a political correctness pick.

If Michael Bloomberg wins the first few Democratic primaries — Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina — he’ll be the odds-on favorite to win the nomination.

And winning the early primaries shouldn’t take more than a few $billion.

Somebody should attend one of his events and yell “Can you please stand up?” when he’s actaully standing up and talking.
