AUSTIN, Texas — A historically inaccurate brass plaque honoring confederate veterans will come down after a vote this morning, WFAA has learned.

The State Preservation Board, which is in charge of the capitol building and grounds, meets this morning at 10:30 a.m. to officially decide the fate of the metal plate.

Well if it isn’t the village idiot chiming in.

And I see that the boobgeois is well represented as well.

Good morning, have you gotten to polishing your Lincoln statue?...

Not yet. I do housecleaning on the weekends.

Take down EVERY northern plaque which says the war was fought to end slavery. They are inaccurate as well. The north offered to enshrine slavery into the Constitution and voted to do so before the war. All of their lies need to be taken down from wherever they are across the north. THIS movement is coming.

This is a perfect example of how the Civil War has been a political football for 150 years. Back in 1959, when this plaque was put up, Texas was run by Dixiecrats with a strong political interest in spinning the Civil War as preserving states rights in the face of an oppressive Union / Republican government. Civil War Confederate nostalgia was one way that the Dems kept their white voting base in line. Now we’ve come 180 degrees and any Civil War memorial that isn’t a damnation of slavery is being erased from history. Personally, I think plaques like this should come down — they were Democrat political statements, not honoring Civil War veterans. But don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Plaques and statutes honoring Confederate soldiers and generals should remain.

Could you tell us more? Perhaps a citation.

Gotto remove all of our historical monuments, plaques, statues, and gut the history books so the goose steppers can totally indoctrinate the youth and the rest of the sheep!

I would agree with that. Where is one?

The north offered to enshrine slavery into the Constitution and voted to do so before the war.

But after the Southern states had seceded and adopted a constitution that protected slavery to a far greater extent than the U.S. Constitution did.

All of their lies need to be taken down from wherever they are across the north. THIS movement is coming.

Well wake me when it gets here. I wouldn't want to miss it.

My father kind of sarcastically always said, “when you don’t want to do something, any reason will do.”

The left does not want to honor the South, or the Confederate soldiers. They wanted a seemingly apolitical reason to remove it, they found one, whether factual or not, they found a reason.

Read Lincoln’s Inaugural address or the Corwin Amendment. Those both make it abundantly clear slavery was not threatened.

“Texas Governor Greg Abbott and newly elected Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen, have publicly stated their support for the Plaque’s removal.”

That means it’s coming down.

Lincoln couldn’t have been more clear that he would protect slavery and even strengthen fugitive slave legislation. Slavery was not threatened.

When can we vote on the removal and future ban of all MLK Boulevard signage throughout Texas?

Anytime, I suppose, but why?

Lincoln couldn’t have been more clear that he would protect slavery and even strengthen fugitive slave legislation. Slavery was not threatened.

We can debate part of that but is still doesn't change the fact that the Southern states seceded long before Lincoln was inaugurated and adopted a constitution that protected slavery to a far greater extent than the U.S. Constitution did, even had the Corwin Amendment been adopted. They were motivated to act out of a sense that their institution of slavery was threatened by the Lincoln election.

Here is a quote from Abraham Lincoln about the Corwin Amendment...

"I understand a proposed amendment to the Constitution—which amendment, however, I have not seen—has passed Congress, to the effect that the Federal Government shall never interfere with the domestic institutions of the States, including that of persons held to service ... holding such a provision to now be implied constitutional law, I have no objection to its being made express and irrevocable."

Lincoln SUPPORTED enshrining slavery into the Constitution. The Lincoln memorial MUST BE TORN DOWN. Lincoln must be removed from the penny and the five dollar bill.

Lincoln SUPPORTED enshrining slavery into the Constitution.

Not to the extent that the Confederacy enshrined it in theirs.

The Lincoln memorial MUST BE TORN DOWN.

It's closed right now.

Lincoln must be removed from the penny and the five dollar bill.

Send me all of yours. I'll see to it they're destroyed. I promise.

No they weren’t. Candidate Lincoln said numerous times he had no intention to threaten slavery and never said anything to the contrary. In fact he supported stronger fugitive slave legislation. Even if he intended to threaten slavery, he did not have the votes in Congress to do anything to threaten it.

Slavery simply was not threatened.

"Not to the extent that the Confederacy enshrined it in theirs."

This is really a stupid statement. Enshrined is enshrined no matter how you wish to describe it. It's like it makes a difference how someone is murdered. The murderer is STILL the murderer.
