Hundreds of furloughed federal workers, contractors, union representatives and supporters gathered in the brisk wind and bitter cold Thursday to demand government leaders end this shutdown.
Leaders of the National Federation of Federal Employees said they hoped that bringing federal workers to the presidents doorstep would show him whom the shutdown has hurt most. President Trump, though, wasnt there to see them, having left earlier in the day to visit the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas.
We want to send a very strong message that this is not about politics, its about getting people back to work, said Brittany Holder, a spokeswoman for the NFFE and a protest organizer. A lot of the county thinks federal workers are all here in the D.C. area, but its only 15 percent. If youre living paycheck to paycheck to make ends meet, and suddenly the paychecks stop? People are feeling really stressed and anxious, and they want to know when this will end.
Protesters, who packed the street outside the AFL-CIO building on 16th Street NW, held signs that declared I want to go back to work, and Congress: Do your job so we can do ours. The protest came on the 20th day of a partial shutdown that has left nine federal departments and several agencies closed since Dec. 22.
The group began to march about 1:20 p.m. to the White House, calling on Trump to reopen the government with or without funding he has requested for a border wall.

Go protest in front of Congress, you ignorant tw@t!
At least that one has it right.
Odd, Congress hasn’t given the president anything to sign yet. They should be protesting Congress...
Wow, “hundreds...”
"...spend more time with kids, dont have to pay for childcare, and get paid to do it..."
Lol!
“Non-Essentials of the World Unite!”
Give their jobs to illegals - illegals work cheap and NONE of these Washington people gave a damn when illegals took jobs in flyover... let's return the favor...
BINGO!
“Give their jobs to illegals - illegals work cheap and NONE of these Washington people gave a damn when illegals took jobs in flyover... let’s return the favor...”
A taste of their own medicine!
We want to send a very strong message that this is not about politics, its about getting people back to work,...
No, it’s about building a wall.
Years ago, I knew a gal in college who got a government job in DC when she graduated.
A few months later she came back to campus for a visit. I’ll never forget her telling me that her co-workers didn’t seem to like her very much, and complained about her.
It seems that she was working too hard and showing them up. She said that she wasn’t doing any extraordinary amount of work, except in comparison to her co-workers.
She was a conscientious person, but more “slow and steady” than any kind of fireball.
I suspect you are right and half the federal workforce could be elimiated with no loss in productivity at all.
As far as I’m concerned, people whose jobs consist of making up rules and regulations for the rest of us to follow could be eliminated altogether.
Do you really believe ANY of these people cared about the miners 'bills being paid' in West Virginia when they lost jobs? Or steel workers? Or anyone outside of DC or New York? And I don't mean miners or workers who 'were on paid vacation' until the fuss was over, but people and communities that lost it all.
These government workers should be replaced with illegals... all of 'em. If it's good enough for flyover, it's good enough for DC.
When the wall is built then the furloughed DC democrats can have their jobs back...
[[Why are they protesting at the White House?? Nancy lives in San Francisco.]]
Yes, hand them maps of San Fancisco
Go get real jobs there federal “worker”.
Replace them with cheapest laziest dumbest illegal aliens available. The work that is done will improve greatly.
Just a union meeting, nothing to see here.
Where are they going to find men in the DC area?
Water this was a Democratic party AFGE organized collusion. After all the AFGE is a major source of Dems finances.
Why are they protesting at the White House?
Congress hasn’t sent the President a bill to end the shutdown. Pelosi sent the Senate a few bills that might open some agencies, but nothing has been passed and sent to President Trump.
Their protests should be moved to the Congress.
I get your point, but Trump can take the pressure. Congress...meh
