President Donald Trump walked out of discussions to end a partial government shutdown, now in its third week, calling discussions with congressional Democrats "a total waste of time."
"Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time. I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier? Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!" Trump said.

Be nice if Gov. Abbott requests Trump declare an emergency on the TX border. Same for Gov. Ducey in AZ. That would cover 80% of the wall area.
The longer the shutdown continues just proves how much we really don’t need all of those government employees.

I’d really appreciate some objective analysis of where we are on this.
I mean, I think Trump is doing great. But I also think he will be abandoned by the GOP, and then there’s the media. Honestly, I have a hard time seeing how Trump wins this. I also have not been following this closely, b/c it disgusts me.
Would appreciate the wisdom of folks here.

Controlling the narrative to stay on this issue, benefits Republicans. When Democrats are free to set the narrative, it will be the personal destruction of Trump and Republicans.
Better to fight on favorable terrain. Let the shutdown last through the State of the Union - or until Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s replacement is announced.
No problem. Go to plan B to build the barrier infrastructure and leave the dems completely out of the loop. Let the partial shutdown go on for years if need be. We will find out how many of those jobs are just a drain on the taxpayer’s pocketbook and how many are really needed.

Imagine what would happen if some terrorist took only a small amount of that stuff and threw it around the inside of a plane or train or a concert hall or say Times Square. Just getting that stuff on your skin is enough to stop your breathing never mind breathing it in while it’s airborne, and this is a joke to Schumer and Pelosi? I’m reading stories of EMTs needing narcan shots because they OD trying to help people who ODed from this sh*t. 90% of this crap is coming from Mexico which gets it from China. China is trying to kill us and the left wants them to win.
Simple solution: Award Mexico $5b in “foreign aid”, then have Mexico build the wall with the money.

If Trump folds, he’s done politically. The democRATS know this and are trying to force Trump to fold just like Bush Sr. did, with the same results.

At some point it becomes a matter of principle and when you have someone who fights... you back them. He’s winning and making progress and the thing that keeps the dems up at night is the idea of him winning again... why? Ruth Bader Ginsburg is at the top of the list.
At this point I don’t see many (if any) Democrats voting for wall funding in either the house or the senate. So Trump should be doing plan B. Get everything lined up (contracts for wall supplies, military personnel to build the wall, a legal team to defend the president’s right to declare an emergency) before the State of the Union address so once he declares a state of emergency, he can start to build a wall immediately.

ok, fair enough....and how do we “know” he is winning?
My only recent data point is the 2018 elections, and those weren’t great.
Duh, my cat could have told him it was a waste of time.
Frankly, I give the shutdown two more weeks and he’ll be forced to open it. The only ones getting held over the proverbial barrel are the workers. Congress isn’t getting punished so they can continue to say no forever and it’s no skin off their backs.
2020. President Trump’s speech was reaching out to the political middle. Trump’s supporters are already on board with building the wall. That’s principally why they elected him. Globalist hardliners never will.
