Other medieval (or earlier) ideas are:

wheels
fire
monotheistic theism
democracy and the republican form of government
mechanical clocks
gun powder/modern chemistry
water mills and wind mills
eye glasses
flying buttress architecture

Etc.

Just because it’s old, doesn’t mean it’s outdated.

George W Bush had a virtual wall of cameras built.

But Obama had it taken down first thing, claiming it didn’t work.

The new wall doesn’t look like any of the prototypes.

The only problem with the steel slot wall is there is too much grounding. Unless the top bar is insulated and they can run a current down it.

"The new wall doesn’t look like any of the prototypes."

It is a bollard barrier with anti-climb plate - essentially this prototype design, without the barrel top or anti-corrosion treatment (and more like 18 feet than 30 feet tall).

They will be coming along behind this new barrier with a second new barrier, 30 feet tall (contract awarded, work to start by next month). Also, new road, lights, cameras and sensors/alarms will be installed in the new "enforcement zone" no mans land, created between the two new barriers.

Basically, this door will be closed. They will have to go elsewhere to sneak in.

Speaking of Medieval(or earlier) ideas, let me mention:

The difference between a wall & drones/sensors is that the wall stops the illegal BEFORE he/she crosses the border, whereas drones/sensors spot the illegal only after they are in the US, giving him/her instant US rights to fight deportation, with the burden of caring for them entirely on us.

I don’t believe I’ve heard any Conservatives explain this publicly.

Drones/sensors are a clever Leftist ploy to get the illegal here & force the government to try to deport them, swamping our detention facilities & immigration courts.

The secret ingredient for much of the best-preserved parts of the wall — sticky rice. Sticky rice mixed with the lime produces much better mortar, apparently.

One of the main purposes of border Walls, which are older than the Middle Ages by far, is to provide not only a barrier to enemies crossing the border, but a transportation avenue for your border guards responding to an unauthorized crossing (i.e. an invasion). Which implies another factor: Border Walls require garrisons of Border Guards.

Michelle had no problem spending taxpayer money to take her girls to The Great Wall of China.

Agreed, a border wall with out guards is not an impediment to unauthorized access.

Than is why we had bunkers and towers surrounding our basecamp perimeters in Viet Nam.

The wheel is pre-medieval...by a long shot.

“The wheel is pre-medieval...by a long shot.”

Amen.

Walls are not a medieval solution - they are a stone age solution.
