A new Florida law is scheduled to take effect on Tuesday that will reportedly allow those who have been convicted of felonies to register to vote.

The Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that the new measure, which 64 percent of residents voted to approve last year, will automatically restore voting rights to Floridians with past felony convictions.

According to the local newspaper, offenders who were not convicted of murder or sexual offenses that have also completed “all terms of their sentence including parole or probation” will have their voting rights automatically restored on Tuesday.

"What about restoring gun rights for nonviolent felons?"

I know that some of them get really clean and should have that right restored. Some of them do. The issue needs attention.

But look at the rest of them. Those of us who pay attention see the likelihood that too many of them would tend to violate the rights of others. With the drug epidemic, the paranoia and volatile mania that goes with the anxiety and panic, recidivism is much more often continuing for the rest of their lives.

With a 60 - 70% recidivism rate, this isnt a big deal. Not to mention that this segment of the population has a 10% turn out rate on election day. Less if it rains.
