They are backed into a corner. They wont go down without a fight. So you offer them a way out. Warts and all, they are, or at least were, Americans, at one point in time.
He’s showing the American people that he is willing to give the Democrats one final opportunity at negotiation - before he pulls the rug out from under them. At that point, seeing his honest attempt, most Americans will support his decision to go nuclear when the Dem assholes balk again. This is a good move on Trump’s part.
