NY Times ^ | January 7, 2018 | Maggie Haberman and Eileen Sullivan

President Trump wants to address the nation about the government shutdown on Tuesday night, and later in the week plans to travel to the southern border as part of his effort to persuade Americans of the need for a border wall — the sticking point in negotiations with Democrats who are eager to reopen shuttered agencies.

The White House did not immediately respond to questions about a request to television networks to carve out time for an Oval Office address. A person familiar with the request said the White House had asked to interrupt prime time programming on Tuesday.

IF the networks actually carry Trump’s speech, they will follow it with Dems giving a long rebuttal and their own reporters and anchors also refuting it.

“We’re not going to facilitate his spreading of vile hate speech.”

The excuse will be something like that.

Thank GOD for RSBN!
We did the same. MFM, we’ve no use for them. They’ve shown themselves to be “working” just as the congress critters have shown themselves. WTP have found we REALLY don’t need them.

WHY. ARE WE PAYING THEM?

I’m thinking for the first time in US history the TV nets may say no.

In which Trump promptly has the FCC pull their commercial broadcast license.

If the networks do broadcast Trump’s speech, they will surely follow it with a Democrap Spin session contradicting everything the President says, offering pundits and pollsters claiming no need for a “wall.”

They are at this very moment trying to book these people you refer to.

Persuade Americans? Don’t polls show 69% approve?

He should tell America the only reason the democrats don’t want the wall is because it was one of his campaign promises. They want to say he said Mexico will pay for it so he lied.

And quote what Schumer said about the wall when Obie was president.

The sub-theme will be, I was willing to negotiate, but you choose not to, so I had to do something.

They did it to Reagan too ...

If they don’t cover it I say they don’t need access to the briefing room either. I am sure there are plenty of people that would love to have a seat.

Maybe he signs the EO National Emergency at the border, portion of wall as backdrop.

Works for me, but I would almost rather watch the Dems take all the blame for a prolonged government shutdown due to their recalcitrance.

They'll cover it, it's tough because it will be difficult in prime time to allow any prolonged "opposition" arguments from their friends and fellow anti-Trumpers.

“effort to persuade Americans of the need for a border wall — the sticking point”

It’s obvious how this should be fixed.

“effort to persuade DEMOCRATS of the need for a border wall — the sticking point”

President Trump wants to

It's not a "want to". He's the president. It's a "will". And if the Dem house organs choose not to turn their cameras on it, it will be broadcast anyway in a variety of ways. If people choose to watch "The Next Masked Idol Singer" or whatever inane garbage instead, they're probably the type of people who don't need to hear it and will automatically vote commie anyway.

As another FReeper said earlier, “This is the hill to die on”.

Candidate Trump claimed that hill right after coming off the escalator, and he's never backed down. Someone will have to knock him down off it. I wish them luck trying.
