President Trump announced that U.S. troops will be sent to Gabon, in anticipation of violent demonstrations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) if and when the results of the December 30 presidential election are announced...The Ebola outbreak in eastern DRC is still growing, but not as quickly as had been feared. The outbreak total is 613 cases, including 565 confirmed and 54 suspected cases. Health officials are still investigating 54 suspected infections.

Little stinker there for the anti-defense, anti-vaccination and conspiracy theorist folks all in one post. Enjoy. ;-D
Sorry but Trump has never surrounded himself with competent appointees who share his America first world view. Every attempt he makes to disengage from foreign entanglements is scuttled. The globalists will not release the grip they have on American treasure and blood. Trump really has to learn how to exercise the power of the Presidency most effectively.
Only if they are there to evacuate US citizens.
We’re going to protect Americana and USA facilities.
Looks like they’re mobilizing to protect diplomats and other U.S. civilians, until the situation in and around the Congo is stable. Maybe they’ll bring back some souvenirs. ;-)
That is how it always starts. Soon we will be sending in American public health workers to deal with ebola and “other problems”, support personnel and military to protect them etc. etc. etc. If the Congo requires Westerners for security, its the responsibility of the Belgians and the EU. America never learns.
Imagine if Hillary had called for help in Benghazi...instead of plotting a tale.
WE protect our own. we have an Embassy there.
Thanks. That practice involving gifts hadn’t occurred to me, and some nations could make refusal difficult with social customs and all. Did you see the movie, “28 Days later?” Good movie. ;-)
Isn’t Minneapolis - Saint Paul full yet?
I turned down another $250 for my Birthday which is next week. Please let that be one of the times he doesn't listen to me.
How about just evacuating the embassy?
That is the most likely scenario. The DRC is almost a third the size of the size of the lower 48. Its a big place, far from everywhere, with big problems. Nobody can solve them but the Congolese, and they arent tired of killing each other yet.
We are most likely looking at a smaller scale version of Operation DRAGON ROUGE.

One door closes, and another door swings open.
As his letter to the Speaker of the House says they are there only to protect U.S. citizens. From the context of the rest of the article I presume those citizens are mostly health care workers engaged in containing an Ebola outbreak.
Sounds like the phone rang at almost 3am, he answered and took appropriate action. What a concept.
I think that horse left the barn a couple of decades ago. Maybe several decades ago.
