WASHINGTON House Democratic Caucus Vice Chairwoman Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) told PJM that she hopes President Donald Trump settles for building border barriers that are not as high as a giant wall while helping DREAMers as part of a deal to reopen the government.
Clark was asked if she would support a deal with Trump that includes legal status for DREAMers in exchange for the $5 billion in wall funding.
Were hoping for some sort of compromise. The wall is a bad idea. We have better technology. There are better things that we can spend our money on to improve security so I hope the president is open to doing some sort of barrier that is short of this giant wall he wants and will work with us to do things like get our DREAMers the security they need and deserve, so I think were waiting for his move, Clark said during an interview at the EMILYs List reception for members of the 116th Congress on Thursday.
We already have fencing and barriers, but when we have Border Patrol agents that dont even have cell phone service thats where we should be investing our dollars, that sort of technology, she added.
Clark attended a meeting about the government shutdown with Trump at the White House today.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) was also asked if he would support the presidents wall funding request in exchange for granting legal protection to DREAMers, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that gave work permits to some people brought to the country illegally as children.
Every time we try to do something for DREAMers, the right wing calls him amnesty Donald and he backs off, Schumer said. We will wait to see if he is willing to do anything for DREAMers. Myself, Leader Pelosi, Dick Durbin and the DREAMers themselves have no faith in Trump.
Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) signaled that she might be open to supporting a wall funding deal that involves DREAMers even though she personally opposes Trumps call for more border barriers of some sort.
Im not for the wall, she said.
When asked if she would vote to fund the wall under any circumstance, Frankel replied, I dont know. I dont know. Its a waste of money.
Rep. Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.) told PJM he opposes funding additional border barriers and said legal status for DREAMers is a separate issue.
The DREAMers have nothing to do with the presidents wall. As a matter of fact, we should be able to pass the DREAM Act out of the U.S. House of Representatives and, if Mitch McConnell wants to do the right thing, as many of the Republican senators have said that they support protecting the DREAMers, we can take that action in the U.S. Senate as well, Lujan said.
President Trump, through the use of his pen, took this disrespectful action towards DREAMers in America and he could very well reverse it. He shouldnt be using them as pawns to negotiate for this ridiculous wall, he added.
To support his position, Lujan cited his recent trip to the Antelope Wells Port of Entry in New Mexico; he said there was no running water.
The water was contaminated. They had no drinking water. They had no water to bathe or to cook not just for the asylum-seekers but also for the agents. That is no way to have facilities across the country and we should be talking about the ports of entry on the southern border of Mexico, he said. Its also with Canada and also with our water ports as well thats where the investment of infrastructure and border security is absolutely necessary.
Lujan said Trump could reopen government by signing the same bill that already passed the Senate, which included $1.3 billion for border security not including any concrete wall.
There was a deal, clearly. When Mitch McConnell put a bill on the Senate floor that passed unanimously, I cannot imagine that he did not do that without the presidents support. President Trump decided to turn on Fox News and watch Sean Hannity and changed his mind, he said of the bill that passed by voice vote before Christmas. How can you work with someone like that? The president needs to own up, get the government opened up again and then see how we can negotiate with each other. So Im still hopeful. Im optimistic.
I would think they would be using radio....
Walls are the best technology to keep people out
If they weren’t Obama would not have recently built one around his house....
Another idiot in the Congress. That joint has turned into a real freak show now.
Because Democrats know better than anybody, including border agents. Just like when they told use transsexuals should be in the military after a transsexual committed the largest security breach in US military history.
Why not a massive hospital and welcome center built on the border so we can hurry the illegals on their way to the DNC Voter registration office?
OK, they have better cell service, then what?
How does that prevent illegals from illegally crossing the border?
“Station X calling Station Y”, I see hundreds of men rushing the border in location Z” ... then what?
These freakin’ Democrats are pathetic. They can’t do anything as individuals. Always have to respond with their group-think. Do as they are told by the party. Talk about Socialist.
Proof that the “Top House Dem” is dummer than a rock.
Fine. Don’t put in a wall. Put in a deep mine field covered by automated GAU-19Bs and patrols. Maybe a few signs in English for the invaders to see, or not. I’m sick of this. it is an invasion, always has been. Start treating it as such. Shoot on sight.
"Quick, hand them ballots."
"Si, se puede!"
Take the Exterior Doors off her House and then she can tell us about better technology to prevent people from going inside.
President Trump decided to turn on Fox News and watch Sean Hannity and changed his mind

I was wondering where President Trump got all of his great ideas...//sarc
Now Rush L and the rest of them will be weeweed off because they all think the President follows their online/onair advice.
Guess we will see a steady stream of Libs hitting the ‘tv circuit’ to answer canned questions so the MSM will be able to have headlines condensed to make ‘US’ look bad.
You can’t say one is ‘suffering’ from paranoia if someone is REALLY after them....
Sounds good. Trump should add this as another demand, in addition to the $5 billion.
DREAMers the security they need and deserve,
So let’s make sure people who are protecting the Dreamers have better cell service as the radios they use now are also old ideas.
Socialists only make sense to other socialists - the rest of us, not so much.
These TRAITORS not only don’t want to protect our country - they’re PROUD of it.
Its all about keeping the catch and release scam going.
Every time one of these Democrats open their mouth, the collective IQ of the lot of them sinks another 0.2 points below 37.
Lets invest in the cell service. Lets invest in drones, sensors, personnel, everything the Dems can contrive. And then lets build the wall. Do it all. Make them wish theyd never raised the issue.
The dems act like they are just trying to out stupid each other.
POTUS, Trump stand strong...give the Democrats nothing...keep the government shutdown forever, if need be. After watching the Pelosi, Jive show, “Keystone Cops, Chinese Fire Drill, Kabuki theater, the Democrat House is going nowhere. Everyone of their legislation bills went absolutely nowhere. Pelosi is a weak sister...the nutcase Democrats, of the extreme left will eat her alive.
Trump make ‘em pay up with at least 5.7 billion bucks. Pelosi & Schumer lost...this game is over, except that these Democrat idiots do not have a clue!!! Screw “em!!! The Game is your POTUS, Trump....the overwhelming numbers of the American people are with you 100%!!!
The Go Fund Me...Border Wall Campaign with private donations for building the wall is now about to pass $200.000.000 in just 20 days. It is just getting started!!! Trump, the cards are all in your hand!!! Stand firm!!! America will win...the Democrats will lose!!!
