What's with Mitt Romney, the newly minted Republican senator from the great red state of Utah?
Mitt hadn't even been sworn in yet and he put his name on a New Year's Day op-ed column in the Washington Post bearing the headline "Mitt Romney: The president shapes the public character of the nation. Trump's character falls short."
Then Mitt showed up on CNN to repeat his complaint that after two years the president of his party has "not risen to the mantle of the office."
Sorry he feels that way, but if moderate Mitt really cared about the GOP he would have put a leash on that super ego of his.
Lots of us Republicans have criticized the president's words and actions - justifiably.
But Mitt's criticism - delivered publicly in two of the liberal media's holiest places - was an ill-timed cheap shot aimed at reminding everyone in the Washington elite that he may be a loser, but compared to the president he's still a morally superior being.
Mitt knew his scathing criticism would immediately be spread far and wide by the Trump Hate Media, which it was.
He also knew it would instantly earn the president's ire, which Trump expressed in a series of counter-tweets.
Even Mitt's niece, Ronna McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, hit her uncle upside the head for his subversive selfishness.
"POTUS is attacked and obstructed by the MSM media and Democrats 24/7. For an incoming Republican freshman senator to attack @realdonaldtrump as their first act feeds into what the Democrats and media want and is disappointing and unproductive."
Mitt's attack on the president was more than a little hypocritical, given that he had unsuccessfully begged him for a cabinet position and had happily accepted his support last fall when he was running for Utah's senate seat.
There may be many Republicans who agree exactly with everything Romney said, but that's not the point.
It was stupid of him to write a column excoriating the president two days before he even took his Senate seat.
He wants to be treated with respect in the Senate, and this is the way he starts?
He should have showed up in Washington, taken his Senate seat and said and done nothing.
If he has complaints or comments about the president, he should have made them to Trump in private.
Trump quickly put Mitt in his place with his tweets and now Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will have to do it in the Senate.
For the next two years or so McConnell will have to remind Senator Mitt exactly who he is and isn't:
"Take your seat, Mr. Romney. You're a junior member of the senate. You're not our party spokesman. You have to earn the right to be a spokesman, the way Lindsay Graham has."
What Mitt did with his op-ed piece - beside pump up his deflated ego, hurt his own party, help the Democrats and give the liberal media free Republican ammo to fire at the president - was to really piss off his new boss McConnell.
I don't think McConnell will be calling on the rookie senator from Utah anytime soon to seek his advice on anything.
Meanwhile, now that Nancy Pelosi and her leftist Democrat children have taken control of the House of Representatives, the next two years are going to be very rough for the president, the GOP and conservatives.
The last thing they needed was another egotistical Republican flake running loose in the Senate, but it looks like that's what the junior senator from Utah is going to be.
Lots of home states—Michigan too, and doesn’t he have a house in California?
Ronna Romney McDaniel no longer uses “Romney”, at the urging of Trump. Mitt’s niece is the daughter of George Scott “Scott” Romney, Mitten’s brother (so it’s her maiden name, not middle name)
Very surprised to hear this Trump supporting piece from Michael Reagan.
I used to admire and respect his conservative opinions in the 90’s.
However, he became a RINO during the Obama era and was very hostile to the TEA party Freedom caucus.
I even met him at the Ronald Reagan Museum and he told me his father would have never been supported by the “radical conservatives” in charge during the Obama era. Very looney popular California “moderate Republican” meme he’s adopted.
Willard is the mean bully he always has been...
I remember a Republican breakfast in Chattanooga I went to just after Bob Corker was elected to the Senate...
He hadn’t taken his seat yet and when Zack Wamp our Congressman spoke that morning he gave Bob some advice on how to act when he went there...
He said to be quiet for the first few WEEKS even MONYTHS and just watch and listen and learn..don’t give his opinion on anything unless he is asked and don’t speak on the floor unless he is asked by the GOP leaders to do so...which he probably wouldn’t at first...
Unfortunately Willard doesn’t know any Zacks and if he did he wouldn’t listen...Willard is too proud, too better than others...too godlike ;)
Trump needs to label him Flake Romney now, so it will be easier to use during the primary.
Politics is like football. Too many big egotistical stars, who do not know how to play as a team. There is jealousy and vain glory.
Methinks RINOmney is the harbinger of the future of the Repulsican Party. Should even a few more (inept) ‘pubs follow this marshmallow mind, we can kiss the party off for good.
We need to start now to form a new party because the spineless minions currently infesting our party will do nothing but bend over and assume the Dorkbama position to the dimbulbs. Hope I’m wrong.
But I’m not.
Willard was born in Michigan his father was the governor there...
He went to college in California and MASS ...
He lived in MASS and tried to be governor of Utah but they said don’t bother so he ran in MASS and was their celebrated Liberal gov...with a sprinkle od RINO...
He moved to California and he has a house in New Hampshire...
I don’t know when he moved to Utah but it was since 2012...
Hes from all over...except the South...he doesnt like Southerners...
Meet the new flake, same as the old Flake
Meet Mitt Romney: The newest turd in the DC cesspool.
AND, IIRC, he ran a pretty good Senate race against Ted Kennedy, and was winning in the polls, until he moved to the LIEberal Left late in the race.
MA voters knew they had a LIEberal in Kennedy, so there was no need to vote for Mittens.
He was fake then, he was fake when he ran for President, and he is fake now!
I think Mitt is on of the insurance policies. Failed to infiltrate and sabatoge the cabinet, so now he’s taking the harassing senator approach.
Hes from all over...except the South...he doesnt like Southerners...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Southerners weren’t too fond of mormons which is why they headed west. Once again the Southerners prove they have the smarts.
I pray that Mitt will get a seat on some minor committee (agriculture???). Where McConnell does finally assigns him will speak volumes as to McConnell’s loyalties and attitude.
SALT LAKE CITY, UTMitt Romney, incoming senator for Utah and follower of Joseph Smith, lectured the nation in an op-ed Tuesday on the need to reject morally flawed leaders.
The man who has devoted his life to the teachings of a con artist encouraged the nation to examine its leaders to see whether they are worthy of our devotion and respect.
“A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevate the national discourse with comity and mutual respect,” wrote the man who follows Joseph Smith, a false prophet, notorious polygamist, and scam artist. He pointed out that the president hasn’t shown himself to be honest or forthcoming in his dealings with opponents and other countries, while Joseph Smith’s own prophecies failed to come true over and over again, and while the Mormon Church continues to deceive its members by covering up its past.
Romney took Trump to task for his immoral lifestyle, slamming him for being divisive, destructive, and sexist, though the first prophet of his church consolidated power throughout his life in order to marry more women and eventually deceive millions into believing a false gospel.
To close his opinion piece, Romney urged the president to live a morally upstanding lifestyle, “and maybe look for wisdom to lead the nation by staring at stones in a hat.”
He was from Mass, moved to Utah because of his Mormon roots, established residency, and won the Senate race. This is why the 17th Amendment must be repealed.
Trump needs to label him Flake Romney now, so it will be easier to use during the primary.
Now that McCain, Corker, Flake are gone, Dems need a stealth Senator; a third column within the GOP ranks to cause disruption. Romney is their guy...
He had a mult-million-$ house by the ocean in La Jolla (San Diego), complete with an elevator for his car
