/Then you sit down and write a long, detailed nutty note asking for ransom in the exact amount of the man’s recent bonus.

I’m willing to suspend disbelieve on a lot of things, but this aspect of the case has always bothered me. They were well off - why not write a note asking for a million or some other round figure? Why ask for the exact amount of his bonus???

The Boulder police really messed this one up. Even a 5th grader would question the ransom note.

Though you were a minute ahead, I swear I didn’t read your post above mine first.

If someone in the family wrote the note they would more than likely have asked for a more common ransom like a million dollars. The fact that someone asked for the amount of his bonus makes it likely that someone had spent time in the house and saw his financial records. The person who wrote the note was asking for a sum of money that they knew the ramseys could pay.

The person asked for that amount because he that the ramseys could pay it. The note had to have been written before she was killed. Not many people can sit down and write out a note like that after having just killed a little girl. No way could patsy write it if she had know Jon benet was dead. She was hysterical and would not have been calm enough to write the note.
