Newly elected Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema refused to be sworn in on a Bible, opting, instead, to place her right hand on a book of laws, including the U.S Constitution and the Arizona Constitution.
The book Sen. Sinema placed her hand on to be sworn in came from the Library of Congress, her office told the Arizona Republic.

Why not?
The Constitution doesn't require that an oath of office be taken on a Bible. (John Quincy Adams took his Presidential Oath of Office on a law book.) It doesn't even require an oath-- it says "oath or affirmation."
As a first move I would tend to agree. An oath to the constitution should suffice in principle. No “religious test” should have to be added. However we are under terrible spiritual forces today working to turn the constitution into a farce. So like you said, beware.
Yes, I have the same expectations from most Republicans.
Arizona, Michigan, and Virginia.
Democrats are sending nut cases to Congress.

And Arizona Republicans (actually one Republican, Governor Ducey) name to the US Senate an atrocious candidate who actually managed to lose her race to a nut case. This atrocious candidate (McSally) will now have to defend the seat in a 2020 special election. I dont have high hopes for her success.
Just on principle. Besides, I don’t think she plans on upholding the constitution. But that’s just me.

The tools that actually snap on have distinct ends.
I believe a lot of ignorant, rank-and-file Dems think they are still voting for the Democratic Party their grandparents voted for instead of the dangerously radical Demonrat Party of today.
Not as we have known it. Accept it for formality’s sake but beware!
To say that she refused to be sworn in on a Bible implies someone told her she had to. Who would that be?
I believe this is going to end up with a split even in the Democrat party, for the same reasons that caused Ronald Reagan and, later, Donald Trump to leave that party. By having such an undisciplined, vacuous message, the Democrat Party courts its own swift disintegration. There may be a piece of it left that is still called the Democrat Party after all of this. But what its policy will look like is only known to God at this point.
It’s still an improvement over Flake.
I would guess it was suggested as a manner of custom.
While I understand the Bible being used historically, this is a country of freedom of religion, including (sadly) freedom from religion as it applies to an individual (the country was built on belief in Gd and wouldnt have been built without it). But for an individual swearing to uphold the oaths of his new office, Im good with them swearing on the constitution. That is what they must uphold. Even though this one still might not.
In courts, really, the fact that witnesses and accused are to swear on a Bible is almost silly at this point. I guess they could all just swear their words are truthful, or face the perjury penalty. Having a bunch of atheists or non-American criminals swearing on any document or book in court really makes little sense.
Arizona sure knows how to pick em.
You can thank RINO Martha McSally and that old turd Sheriff Arpaio. Kelli Ward should have had a clear shot, but thanks to Arpaio, she got screwed. Ive lost all respect for him. Hes nothing but a RINO spoiler. Moderate Republicans are ever the failures.

It would NOT surprise me if the open-borders globalists once again work on Arpaios ego to get him to run in the 2020 special election to have him split the Republican and conservative vote with the lousy campaigner McSally...thus allowing a RAT candidate to pick up their second Senate seat from Arizona.
America’s founding political policy depended on a heavy moral consensus that was headed up by Christians and followed on closely by Jews. Surely if a Jewish person was sworn in, he might choose to use an Old Testament, not (yet) recognizing the New. And there would not be a lot of fuss about it by Christians who understand.
But a system like this is vulnerable to faith that becomes slack.
Arizona is now known for the two biggest holes in world
Next thing you know, libs will be swearing on Bazooka Joe comics.
Obviously, this representative of the affiliates of the Church of Feminists Forever does not want to have any obligations “under God” sullying her record.
But aren’t the tomes upon which she choose to affirm about the “laws of MEN”?
How does that square with her overwhelmingly secular feminist beliefs?
