Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) told PJM that the federal government should conduct a study of reparations for descendants of slaves to be able to determine the best way to repair some of the damage" that slavery has caused to the African-American community.
Jackson Lee became the lead sponsor of H.R. 40, the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act, after Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) resigned from Congress.
The legislation seeks to address the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery in the United States and the 13 American colonies between 1619 and 1865 and to establish a commission to study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery, its subsequent de jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African-Americans, and the impact of these forces on living African-Americans, to make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies, and for other purposes.

I think that is because they were very wise, not to specify much of anything. Because it could change in the future, or as that Harper’s thing shows (white-LOOKING kids who nonetheless were partly black and born into slavery), some could try to “color” the issue a certain way so that it doesn’t apply to one group, but another.
BTW, the 13th Amend DOES refer to “slavery or involuntary servitude” as a possibility for crimes only - but does not refer to any race. (Not Founders, but apparently they did avoid race to encompass all possibilities.)
The “white slave” thing is really nothing but a casual lazy reference to indentured servitude - which DID have an end.
Nope, ain’t buying it.
"Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D., Texas) declared the U.S. Constitution to be 400 years old Wednesday on the House floor, which would mean it was signed in 1614." "Maybe I should offer a good thanks to the distinguished members of the majority, the Republicans, my chairman and others, for giving us an opportunity to have a deliberative constitutional discussion that reinforces the sanctity of this nation and how well it is that we have lasted some 400 YEARS, operating under a constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not," she said.
That would be seven years after Jamestown, Virginia became America's first permanent English settlement. -- (FreeBeacon.com)
This is the kind of **** that can pass House committees now.
My ancestors were serfs in Russia, where do I get my free hand out? I certainly shouldnt have to pay anything because my ancestors had nothing to do with slavery here. Thats how this is so ridiculous.
Besides, black people have gotten free handouts for generations now. It hasnt done them one bit of good. Anything more would just be wasted, just like it is on the Native Americans. The more free money they get The more delinquent and irresponsible they are.
When are you going to make reparations to the tribes. I believe we should be first in line.
