Polishing Jonah Goldberg
The American Spectator ^ | December 29, 2018 | Ed Morrow - American Greatness

Posted on 01/01/2019 9:12:51 PM PST by an amused spectator

Jonah Goldberg wrote a column for National Review before departing for his Christmas holiday in Hawaii. Was it a retelling of a long ago night before Christmas, when a tiny Jonah in footy PJs couldn’t sleep for hope of a pony under the tree? No. It was a screed titled “Conservative Facts.” What set off Goldberg was a column in American Greatness by Chris Buskirk titled “Death of The Weekly Standard Signals Rebirth of the Right.”

Goldberg speckles his efforts with pop culture references to things like Star Trek. Example: in this column, he says Washington “picked a wrong week to stop sniffing glue.” I like a good Airplane! reference as much as the next fellow, for life is hard and humor, however looted from better humorists and however clumsily employed, softens that hardness. But Goldberg doesn’t stick to joking. He bitches.

Buskirk’s column applauded the failure of the Weekly Standard and the dwindling influence of neoconservatism, which was featured in that publication. He, like many conservatives, sees neoconservatism as an ism that through “titanic hubris and priggish moralism” failed conservatism. They think it led America into unnecessary wars while failing to contain the growth of government, defend our borders, or promote traditional American beliefs and institutions. They believe that while America was trying to build democracy in foreign lands with our blood and treasure, America, at home, was being transformed into something unrecognizable.

In his column, Goldberg attacks Buskirk by parading and applauding the intellectuals who created neoconservatism. Buskirk is “dumb” because he doesn’t address the works of each of these luminaries when criticizing neoconservatism. It’s a bit like the Antifa loon who says you can’t knock the “Resistance” till you read his latest manifesto, then after you do and say you still don’t like them, he insists you...

I used to like Goldberg’s writings before he became an anti-Trump activist. Like Marlon Brando said in “On the Waterfront”, he “could have been a contender” but he blew it with his hate and bile.

Bye Bye Jonah. Don’t let the whale get you!

Goldberg fired Ann Coulter from NRO shortly after 9/11. NRO did not back Tea Party candidates. NRO wrote off the white working class after Buckley died. It’s not surprising that Goldberg is a never Trumper. He’s always identified as an elitist squish.

Other than Victor David Hanson, there’s nobody worth reading at NRO. Much like the Weekly Standard, I guess NRO strays afloat depending on rich benefactors. Kurt Schlichter makes fun of the cruises that keeps them afloat.

That is a really good comparison. Why the Republican Party allowed these people to leach off of them for so long is beyond me.

Liberal Fascism was and remains a useful book. Much of what has has said post-Trump entering the political scene remains a head-scratcher given that work. He lost me immediately.

If only to expose the neocon traitors who had until Trump successfully positioned themselves as the head of the uniparty controlled opposition, his admin would have made a great contribution.

(Unfortunately of course time is short and Trump must also not just slow but massively reverse the illegal invasion of the last few decades if our country is going to live on.)

jonah has both bad teeth and smarmy, condescending mind.

If it weren't for his momma, he'd be sweeping out the restrooms at the bus station. This plick has zero talent, but like occasional cortex, thinks he is NEVER wrong.

Hopefully a lot of these “theatrical” conservatives will start disappearing like the vehicles that delivered them upon us.

People of intelligence and maybe some school who are lazy, emotional and motivated by some grudge I can’t fathom.

Rich Lowery can sometimes scrape together good work, but the rest of the lot seem like a bunch of sissies who can’t decide if they want to be Hunter Thompson or Rush Limbaugh.

He’s OK licking out Chuck Schumer’s toilet as long as the checks keep coming.

How could the author of *Liberal Fascism* turn out to be such an imbecile?

Good post.

Goldberg is a disheveled failure. He seriously looks like he's turned to substances, babbling and sweaty.

Like the Weekly Standard, Nat Review is done... memo going out shortly.

Maybe he used a ghostwriter.

That’s usually the case with CelebrityCons. Writing a book is hard work and takes a whole lot of time.

That would have been a pretty impressive ghostwriter. The research for *Liberal Fascism* was well done and accurate.

If Jonah wrote it himself, he has lost his mind since.

I have seen him in person, before the 2008 tragedy; he did not seem mentally ill at that time. Eight years of Obama can do much psychological damage.

There’s a number of very good ghostwriters who have written books for conservative celebrities.

They have the time to do the research and the writing skills to create a readable book. Both of which celebrities often lack. The ‘celebrity’ will have approval over what is written of course... and a skilled writer can mimic the celebrity’s “voice”.

One of the few well known conservatives who does his own writing is Pat Buchanan, but he began his career as a writer. Limbaugh had one book ghosted by John Fund IIRC. I suspect that Hannity and Bill O’Reilly both employ ghosts.
